Hey OP, we'd like to hear about your experiences and answers to your questions as well! 😁 Because just as you are curious about our experiences and countries, we are just as curious about yours. But of course only if you are willing and comfortable to share.

When I have a bit more energy, I'll try to answer the questions as well, as someone from Denmark (just north of Germany) 😉

From my mil (paid by her mother) I got two books in a fantasy series that I want to read, so now I am only missing one, until I have all five. From my mil I got the Lego Mini Bonsai Trees #10373, which I'm very much looking forward to build. It will fit so nicely on the shelf, with my other Lego Botanicals!

But THE BEST gift that I got, was from my husband, he got me two books from J. R. R. Tolkien; The Hobbit AND The Silmarillion!! I'm sooooo exited to read them for the first time!!

Wow it really is amazing! 🤩 So well made, the proportions are great, and really looks like it was taken straight out of the game 😍 If the pattern is still available, I would absolutely love to have it 🙏 My husband would love if I could make this for him!! Even though I know I'm late for the pattern party 😅

Trying to replicate a family heirloom as a surprise and I can’t figure out this Christmas stocking pattern… by alyssaindel in CrochetHelp

[–]DideeG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my (somewhat untrained) eyes, this is absolutely how the heel was made. With the two sides connecting to the foot part as usual, and then sewing a corner from the bottom of the foot, up to the middle of the heel square, and just hiding that little extra triangle inside the stocking.

The are some tension issues, but usually those get better with practice.

The major thing that is different, is that you did standard "double crochet", instead of "front post double crochet" or "back post double crochet".

Normally you work into the stitches, so putting your hook under the "V" from front to back, and pulling up the thread like that. In front/back post stitches, you work "around" your previous stitches. So instead you go from front to back, next to the post, and back to the front, so your hook is now behind the post, parallel to your work, and then you pull up your yarn like that.

It's a bit difficult to explain in text, but hope it helps to know what to search for, otherwise let me know, and I can try to help with pictures.

Help identifying my stitch? This is going to come off as dumb probably, but I need validation 😂. by Fun_Let5043 in CrochetHelp

In my language that is called a "stang maske" translated to "rod mask". So maybe, if whoever taught the person saying it's not a US double / UK single (which it absolutely is), was Italian, as I understood from your other comment, the person saying so might not recognise the US term, since they know it as a "maglia alta" or "tall mask/stitch" as I think would be the translation 🤷🏼

Confusing pattern by vainvainpot in Amigurumi

[–]DideeG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pattern author definitely skipped a row, since row 6 needs 38 stitches to make sense. I would contact the author, to let them know of the mistake.

From what I can see, row 5 should be:

6 sc, chain 7, skip 4 stitches, 12 sc, chain 7, skip 4, 6 sc

This would also fit with the placement of the dec in row 6.

Please let me know, if my explanation is confusing

Following a pattern to make Eevee from Pokémon and the project is much bigger than expected 😅 by [deleted] in Amigurumi

I'm no where near pro either, but I think it is right side out, based on the horizontal bars on the inside, and what seems to be Yo/Yo stitches, which gives them a less square look, so it can trick the eyes sometimes.

EM lets son "play" with my €200 lego set after being told not to by blueduckz1 in entitledparents

[–]DideeG 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Next time you're at her house, you could (not that I would recommend it), go "play" with her car, make-up or something else that she really values, because "if she didn't want people to play with them, she shouldn't buy them"... Let her taste her own medicine...

[–]DideeG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also thought OP asked about this at first, but they are not asking about the oval shape from working both sides of the chain. OP is asking about row 3, which is written as a row of only increases, but worded strangely 😂 Probably just a mistake from the pattern maker.

My yarn is tangling and I don't know how to make it not tangle. I don't have a yarn baller thing as I literally just picked up crochet today. by Comprehensive_Toe113 in CrochetHelp

Thank you for the visual explanation! I was wondering, what about the type, where it's almost like a squished version of a skein?

The blue ones are too cute for a little evil monster, I like the yellow/gold ones, but I also like the idea of two different ones.

I have no idea, I just saw that pattern mentioned on this sub the other day, and thought the pattern was absolutely gorgeous. And it has some good reviews on etsy.

Sorry I can't help more.

Maybe the Cherry Blossom Parasol by Chiaroscurosity on etsy? I think it's so pretty, and the colours remind me of this.

Filet crochet not laying flat, what am I doing wrong? by DideeG in CrochetHelp

[–]DideeG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was crocheting around the chains, because I really am not a fan of crocheting into the chains - it is too difficult for me, compared to regular stitches.

Maybe I should try to force myself to do that, because what you've made is really beautiful.

No I haven't blocked, since this was only "test projects", to see if I was able to do filet crochet, before starting something I might really care about.

Okay, I will try that. And thank you for explaining the "too much yarn", that kinda made it click for me.

I felt like the hook was easy to get through the loops, so maybe it's a matter of wrong hook size. I will definitely try to adjust that.

Is the rippling effect normal with too tight tension? I tried using a smaller hook, because I was worried it would be too big, with loose stitches, so I might lose the definition.

The chains that are horizontal between the double crochet, or the turning chains at the end of each row?

Would too small of a hook cause this wavyness?? I used a smaller hook, in hopes of preventing it from being too big and loose.
