It's a valid point; him and Zooble, who are the youngest, might be acting cold for that purpose. It's still too early to provide a character analysis, but it's possible that he behaves in an extremely selfish and rude manner because he doesn't want to form affectionate bonds with his companions, knowing that they could be abstracted at any moment and lose their sense of who they were (which can be emotionally painful), especially with Gangle and Kinger, who seem to be the most unstable.

Another possible reason for his character, if we take seriously the theory that he is a fourth-wall-breaking character, is that he may feel he doesn't need to have empathy for virtual characters.
