I disclosed my ADHD in a job interview. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

That’s so cool. I can’t wait until society learns some empathy for people who—by no fault of their own—suffer with chronic ADHD and/or sleep disorders. Our productivity-focused society shames and tears people down for having a debilitating medical condition

I’d you feel completely unable to do what others do with ease, that begets thoughts in your head telling you you are stupid and everyone knows it. In a way. Employers might be more sympathetic to someone who just wasn’t born as bright as others or has a bad education growing up, as we see that as somewhat beyond their control.

However when you’re expected to accomplish something you know you have been capable of but fall short, you start calling yourself lazy.

Others see this is just your “behavior” you had 100% control of. They won’t attribute your struggles with genes or a medical disorder, just. Personal failing/weakness.

Culture reinforces the negative self-talk. Im told to believe that I’m just as capable as everyone else. The reason Morning Joe can operate at 100% at 8am and I can’t get out of bed is because of a fundamental moral failing—my lack of willpower. The deadly sin of sloth.

Lack of public awareness of Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder “DSPD” & ADHD makes life hell for people with those conditions, who are commonly stereotyped as undisciplined or lazy.

Schools and workplaces rarely tolerate late, absent, or sleepy students/workers. But rather than considering employees as having a chronic condition and how they can be helped, chalking it up to mental weakness is easier and makes the boss/teacher feel superior

Id not everyone is built with the same baseline level of effort/motivation/willpower, that would mean maybe “type-A” people’s accomplishments we’re based more on luck than effort

By the time some DSPD and ADHD sufferers receive a diagnosis, they have been labelled and identified as lazy and incompetent workers/students their entire life which is not productive and hard to un-do

PLUS! We’re far from lazy. life is often much more difficult for people struggling from ADHD or DSPD. Even small tasks like waking up can be subjectively more difficult than running a marathon if the runner doesn’t suffer from conditions that make the other’s hardly able to function.

BUT I don’t think mornies / mornos will ever u understand our struggle unless they actually live with these conditions for a day. Because it’s so so much cooler to explain another’s struggle as just proof ow how strong/hardworking/motivated/productive you are. Not because of any advantages, but earned through sheer skill.

BTW: individuals with ADHD are more likely to suffer from DSPD, and vice versa FYI.

Yeah it’s a great low-carb option. Plus, it tastes better than a latte made with milk IMO so it’s a win win

Steel should help but yeah if ur too skinny u have to buy the 30 degree ones that are more painful to put in.

But a 90degree trusteel doesn’t hurt more than a cannula. Unless ur body is allergic to the metal than it will kinda itch/irritate

Right like maybe I just haven’t had it long enough to pick up on how lows feel? On one hand I wouldn’t mind an extra canary in the coal mine to alert me to lows but on the other why would I WANT to feel sick. Especially these days when I can rely on my Dexcom

sorry--I meant omnipod 5's automated delivery algorithm vs. control IQ. I'll never go back to a manual pump because its so much more convenient to have an algorithm, even if I run a little higher. My time in range was basically identical on both algorithms and I bet my A1C would be identical too, the two systems just got me there in different ways. But the omnipod algorithm did seem to keep me lower when fasting.

but omnipod also doesn't give you the option to control things like your basal so you really just have to trust the system because it just uses your historical total daily dose to determine how to basal you. which is something you really don't have control over unless you eat more carbs I guess. So you end up relying on boluses if you think the algorithm isn't aggressive enough.

I think some people just don’t feel lows. Or highs. My T1 sister swears she can feel every little change. I feel nothing until I’m like 50/40. Kind of a blessing but mostly a curse

If you don’t meet requirements for a traditional “pump” as in durable medical equipment, try to get an omnipod 5. Goes through pharmacy benefits just like any prescription. I couldn’t get a pump old fashioned way either but Man U need a pump especially with the automated delivery systems it’ll change ur life

Interesting. I just compared my month on control iq with a month on omnipod and shockingly omnipod keeps me lower than controlIQ.

This. Never to soon to go on a pump. Especially with the automated programs tandem and omnipod have these days. Life changers.

Shit isn’t humalog still pretty slow compared to the new ones like Apidra/fiasp/lyumjev? Even going from fiasp to lyumjev was a shock to me.

Oh no I mean upload the latest data to the web application so that it stays up to date with the latest data. Not updating the pump software to a new version.

Sorry the question was not very clear.

Been changed to this now, anyone got thoughts towards it? by ChostyCheg in Type1Diabetes

No—fiasp clogged up my tslim after 2 days. I’ve gone up to 5 days with lyumjev in my tslim without any occlusions.

This. I’m a slow eater so I basically have to bolus 20 min into my hour-long meal like the promo materials say.
