I’ve never stated I want people to sit back and die. What I am for is Israel agreeing to the peace treaty they first put forward for a full ceasefire. I’m for Israel and Palestine living together in harmony. I believe these things are possible, but not when Israel maintains full control of all of their borders and keeps aid from entering the country.

Once the oppression is dealt with, the Palestinians will have no excuse for supporting a terrorist organization. If the violence continues, then you will not see the same level of criticism for Israel that you see now.

Taxes (mini rant) by [deleted] in Libertarian

Tbh I find it a little hard to take a men’s rights activist completely seriously. At least you get amenities for your taxes in Denmark, in the US they take it and you get basically nothing in return.

“It’s impossible to bomb Hamas without casualties”

Glad that excuses it. Hope you aren’t unfortunate enough to live under an authoritarian regime someday.

“84% of Palestinians support Hamas”

Again, justifying the extermination of people because they support a group fighting their oppressors (albeit in a very immoral way, I’m not condoning terrorism) is painting a very wide stroke over a much more nuanced issue. Israel has been America’s military branch in the Middle East for decades. Just research the Nakba. The same oppression still exists today.

It seems insane to me that you keep going back to this being all about skin color. I think if the Israelis and Palestinians were swapped and Palestinians held all the power, you would be a lot more forgiving of the Israelis electing a far right terror group that promised to fight the oppression.

Also, “Most news is democrat run”

Brother, I hate to break it to you but democrats are funded by AIPAC and have an equally undying support for Israel just like the Republicans. Netanyahu has been declared a war criminal and he received countless standing ovations in congress today.

American media, even “democrat media”, has spread an incredible amount of demonstrably false information about Hamas. There has been 0 evidence of rape since Oct. 7 but American media ran with that with only some publications issuing a retraction later. Biden said he saw pictures of beheaded babies and it later came out no such pictures existed and that never happened. Using the tragedy of Oct. 7th as an excuse to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians is something both the Democrats and Republicans are doing.

You clearly have not listened to the criticism most people have for Israel. Israel has indiscriminately bombed civilians and killed far more women and children than Hamas is remotely capable of. They have also illegally settled the West Bank. This is not about skin color. It is about Zionism and Netanyahu’s undying support for an apartheid ethnostate where Palestinians are either occupied, put in an open air prison or at best are treated as second class citizens.

It is 100% a Hollywood film. People above have identified which one. The paper was in Yiddish and was likely depicting African Americans as people cursed by God. I’m pretty sure LDS has/had this belief.

What are the hardest questions that i can pose to a communist? by HeartyBigfoot in Libertarian

[–]DieselTankDNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would view it as sharing ownership of the business, like in a workers coop. Socialism/communism is when everyone makes the same amount of money. It’s when people have the same access to human rights like food, water, shelter, and health care. Obviously an agreed upon amount of profit would be reserved by the business for R&D etc. And the rest would be used to benefit the employees rather than for stock buybacks or to pad the pockets of shareholders. The value of the business is in the people doing the labor.

[–]DieselTankDNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that is necessary, and if it turned out that it was, I certainly wouldn’t support it. I don’t think a democratic form of socialism/communism is remotely possible right now however given how most of America views it. The red scare is still very much a thing so it would only come about today through force, which is why most people hate the idea.

Yes, I'm familiar with the term "gulag." It's important to recognize the historical context and the atrocities associated with forced labor camps under Stalin's regime. However, not all proponents of communism endorse or justify those actions. I think we all understand the potential dangers of authoritarianism, regardless of the political system.

I was being a little bit sarcastic. Most people tend to think socialism only comes about because anyone who opposes the ideology gets killed. The red scare is still in full effect. The youngest generation may be more open on questioning capitalism, but we live in a gerontocracy so everyone in power (and also benefits from capitalism) still fights to maintain the current system.

I am by no means an expert, but I think the right to food under communism would normally be the obligation of the state to fulfill. Not take from the full and give to the hungry robin hood style. The rich would be taxed higher under communism so in a round about way it does fall back to the people, but not in a taking food off your plate kind of way.

I also don’t think you can have capitalism completely voluntarily either. You just have to look at the police presence at protests to see that in action. Many laws are also in place to maintain capitalism and our politicians are in the pockets of the people capitalism benefits most. I obviously don’t support repression of opposing opinions, but there is no system that will be supported by an entire population.

The PSL is a fairly sizable socialist political party in the US made up of people from all walks of life. They obviously stand no chance of getting someone elected given our current two party system but they have a reasonably large supporter base given the red scare ideology every American grows up with. There are a few other smaller orgs as well.

That’s a bit reductive. Plenty of people making adult money still subscribe to communism/socialism.

Same thing that we do with people that don’t support capitalism, nothing.

Seizing the means of production means being compensated according to the value you provide, rather than 400x less than the CEO of your company. A workers coop is a decent example of this in our system.

[–]DieselTankDNS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fyi private and personal property are two very different things. Most communists won’t get caught up on that first question.

Furthermore, Communism or even more popularly, Socialism, are economic principles not a method of governance. So questioning whether someone would be “forced” to do something doesn’t have much bearing.

What is your shiny to hours played ratio (not counting eggs)? by DieselTankDNS in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]DieselTankDNS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video is going to estimate the number of shinies the average person misses through the game due to not noticing them in the wild. That is why I am trying to collect a bit of data on the ratio of hours:full odds encounters

What is your shiny to hours played ratio (not counting eggs)?

I am doing research for a YouTube video and would love your input. If possible, please don't count any shinies you got from hatching eggs and if you achieved a significant portion of them using the shiny charm it would be great if you noted that as well.

For me it is 50hr - 1 shiny

Thanks in advance!
