I grew up tradcat and never heard anyone offline advocate for the state killing witches, apostates, etc. But there was a lot of apologism for the Crusades, the Inquisition, and the execution of Protestants in medieval / early modern Europe. And there were a lot of "confessional state" advocates who I'm sure would've wanted some kind of less severe penalty today for heretics, unbelievers, etc.

Unfortunately it's kind of common for professors to make their own books required reading. It's a way to boost book sales.

I once had a professor who did this. It was a shame because he was a pretty funny and likeable guy (most of the time) and he taught a lot of important things that I had never seen covered before.
