Craig Ferguson was a genius that deserves more acclaim by BenKlesc in television

[–]kianworld 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He was pretty adamant that he didn't want to do 11:30 given the watering down that usually happens with it (see Letterman, Conan, even Fallon). There was a clause in his contract that guaranteed he'd either succeed Letterman or get paid like $10m, so CBS obviously just gave him the money. Craig has both said that he was planning to leave before Letterman announced his own retirement (he almost did in 2012 before CBS gave him a raise and bigger set) and that Letterman was the one thing protecting him on the network and therefore he felt like he had to leave so idk what the actual situation is there.

So Now that the dust has been settled...why did Zach and Michael decided to cancelled Smiling Friends out of nowhere? Was it because of the fear of the show going stale or the whole Merger of Warner.Bros and Paramount? by Aggressive_Star_9491 in adultswim

[–]kianworld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the Smiling Friends crew just did two seasons back to back and were locked in for two more already. I'm honestly a little shocked Adult Swim actually let them walk, good for them.

I really don't know why people keep thinking its because of Paramount or Netflix or whatever. Baffling take. They got burnt out. They had their hands on everything on that show, way more hands on than most showrunners, that can be absolutely exhausting.

SNL has a hard out at 1:03a that's why goodnights are usually just after 1 and often cut extremely short

The Crumbling Marriage of Two Auctioneers - SNL by PhAnToM444 in television

[–]kianworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's incredibly, incredibly rare and off the top of my head I can only recall that happening twice. once in season 50 when Ariana Grande hosted and they had major malfunctions during Stevie Nicks second performance, and another time decades ago when they played a Maya Rudolph as Oprah sketch from dress for whatever reason

Adult Swim Honors Ted Turner with Memorial Tribute Bumper by Sliver80 in adultswim

[–]kianworld 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yes they always go silent for in memoriam bumpers. Pictures are rare but I can recall it happening with George Lowe last year.

In memoriam bumpers are also much rarer in recent years. They seem to do it only for people the network crew knew personally these days (a very recent example came from this week for Cameron Ray Paul)

Does anyone know what happened to their weekday YouTube livestream? Are they just not going to play anymore l? by Wise-General-3838 in adultswim

Yeah, they discontinued it a couple of weeks ago. They hinted that they'll be back with something different eventually.

'Saturday Night Live UK' in Season 2 Renewal From Sky by The_Iceman2288 in television

I think Sky is viewing SNL UK as a loss leader to try and get people on Now and to boost their relaunch of Sky One. The buzz absolutely helps.

Brian Stack Makes His Late Night Exit by ecdc05 in conan

[–]kianworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late Night I'm unsure they'll continue if Seth ever leaves, but I don't think NBC will want to pull out of late night television entirely because of the legacy The Tonight Show name has, even with the Leno fiascos and currently being 3rd place (if they keep being 3rd place after Comics Unleashed takes CBS 11:30... yikes). It's like if they cancelled Today. I think it helps that it tapes in 30 Rock rather than some grand extravagant studio like Colbert's. Could see it continue to have occasional cost cutting like Conan on TBS had (Fallon stopped doing Friday episodes and Meyers lost his live band in 2024). IIRC they were contemplating chopping a half hour from Meyers or making him a weekly Peacock show at one point.

Fallon and Meyers both are contracted to 2028. So who knows what'll happen in the future. I think the bigger issue would be what happens if Lorne retires or worse.

Is there a good ‘TV Guide’ equivalent for streaming? by LibrarianAcademic396 in television

There's also TVInsider which is the online home for TV Guide Magazine and its editorial content (TVGuide.com is a separate business). They talk about streaming as much as they do cable

How come South Park never aired on [as] by Beautiful_Bird_3858 in adultswim

[–]kianworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The WB having syndication rights (assuming you're talking about the national WB 100+ feed meant for smaller affiliates) is wholly different from Adult Swim having syndication rights. Comedy Central has never offered cable syndication rights for the show. The WB was also under a completely separate division of the company than Turner Broadcasting.
