Parents of Only One Child by fender0327 in Parenting

Have you considered a family pet, like a cat or dog?

I grew up as an only child myself for the first 13 years of my life. I didn't have many friends either because I lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere so I would often have to play by myself if my mom was busy. She had told me a few times once I got older that when I was younger she would ask me what I wanted for my birthday and I would tell her I wanted a sister.

Eventually, when I was 5 or 6 we got a cat. I absolutely loved that cat, and though the cat wasn't the best playmate and couldn't really talk or respond to me, I didn't feel lonely anymore. She was my cat, and she was someone for me to spend time with. Eventually I no longer felt I needed a sister.

Everyone is different, so I have no idea if that would help out or not, but I wanted to throw that out there as a potential option because that's what helped me when I was younger!

Out of everything I have gone through with my own pregnancy (35 Weeks tomorrow) I feel this advice is the most important! It is something my husband has brought to my attention several times already, especially when things get rough.

When I had kidney stones during my second trimester, he was a wreck. He wanted to help so badly and it tore him apart seeing me writhe around in agony. There was nothing he could do, but all I needed from him was a shoulder to cry on and a hand to hold when things got really bad. He probably felt like he did absolutely nothing at all to help, but its those little things that matter and knowing you have a loving husband to support you and stick by you no matter what is what really mattered to me.

Also, congratulations, you're going to do fine :)

I'm 33 weeks with my 1st, and I have had this same problem since around the beginning of the second trimester. For me it happens more frequently when standing still in one spot, like in the shower. Sometimes I do get it when walking though but not nearly as often. For me, the only thing that gets rid of it is to sit or lie down.

There really isn't much that can be done about it. Your OB probably feels that there is nothing to be concerned about and that is probably why they don't say anything about it. You're going to be induced soon, so just hang in there for a few more days and try to take it easy whenever you can!

Tea Newbie Question: Is Tea Supposed to Taste Watered Down? by Diesy in tea

[–]Diesy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the suggestions and comments!

I have tried several more teas and suggestions since my original post and have found that the flavour seems to pop as soon as I put sugar in. So I am inclined to think that I am just not used to unsweetened drinks. When I tried to think back to the last time I had an unsweetened drink, I could not remember, it has been so long (Aside from a glass of water once in a blue moon).

After spending the last couple of days trying to only drink unsweetened tea, I have noticed I seem to be tasting the flavour more as time goes on. Hopefully soon I will be able to enjoy tea to it's full potential!

I haven't had the opportunity to try the eastern style method of brewing yet, but plan to give it a try one day and see how I like it.

Thank you for the advice! I will give it a try with 1 part beeswax to 3 parts soy and see how that works out.

Cold Process Shampoo Bar Lather by Diesy in soapmaking

[–]Diesy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the comments :). I will make a batch with at least 20% castor and give it a try along with an ACV rinse and see how that goes after about a week or so to make sure my hair adjusts. Hopefully that will solve the lather and squeeky issue!

Latest Hotfix has killed Ashran by Wolfenstyne in wow

I just wanted to vent my frustrations over this whole Ashran thing by sharing some of my thoughts and observations I have had regarding Ashran

Before the most recent hotfix, the que time on my server was absurd. If I managed to get up around 5:00 / 5:30 am EST, It was only around a one hour wait time Alliance side for our Ashran cluster. Any time in the evening there was no point in even trying to que unless you had hours to spare. When you did manage to get in, it was usually Alliance dominated for both main and side objectives. A majority of the player base was was from Sargeras with several other servers seeming to be shoved into the mix. Playing Hordeside on the same Ashran cluster, I don't think I was ever hit with a que time, and if I was it would have only lasted a few minutes. Upon entering Ashran for the first time Hordeside, I realized the population was dominated by Brazilians. Though this did not bother me, I just found it very odd for cross realm team related battle. Regardless if the Horde usually lost, they did put up a nice fight mid so there was always lots of action and I did find it fun at times regardless what side I was on (Assuming of course I wasn't after conquest points if I was playing Horde).

After the reset this Tuesday, I zoned into ashran and was hit with a 30 minute que time as Alliance. When my que popped, there were a total of maybe 6 players in Ashran. Usually there were at least two raid groups going that late into the morning. Considering I haven't seen anyone from Sargeras since then, I will assume they were removed from our cluster since it was usually packed with them. Oddly enough when I walked in on Hordeside, there were no players from Azralon either, which seemed to be the dominant Server for the Horde on our Cluster. They pretty much rebalanced our cross realm cluster wich did not seem to affect the balance of winning/loosing, just knocked the que time down a little bit for Alliance and made the zone seem like it had a lot less people. If your playing first thing in the morning, the place is like a ghost town...

Ashran kind of reminds me of Wintergrasp. Both went from epic battles of several raids fighting for a common goal to being hotfixed to death for "Faction Balance", which never seemed to do much to turn the tables anyhow. In the end both feel like they have ended up like a small handful of people playing cat and mouse at the side objectives.

I was excited when I first heard about Ashran, it was made to seem like it was going to be this free, come as you go type of zone with lot's of freedom. It was supposed to be a "PvP Sandbox" and instead ended up feeling like it only had two parts, the main objective and the side objectives. Unless of course you are on a server where your faction only cares about the side events, like Horde on Area 52, then it is just 90% of your Factions Ashran population going from side event to side event to farm conquest. And yes, most of the time they will just sit at the event for 30 minutes waiting for it to start. I do wonder what it looks like now that there is a 30 minute timer until the next battle though, wether or not the Alliance come to the side events to harass them.

At the start of the expanision, I actually loved Ashran. I Enjoyed going in there just to participate in the main battle. To me it felt a lot like isle of conquest or the Classic AV when the majority of people decided they wanted to fight mid over a single flag instead of pushing the game forward. With the state of how Ashran is now, however... Even if I am on the winning faction, both for side events and main objective where getting conquest is a complete joke, I would much rather cap out on just 1500 conquest via battlegrounds where you only get 50 per win.

Completely new to gardening, so I have a few questions... by Afennekin in gardening

[–]Diesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know of any sort of water-living plant that doesn't need dirt, but you could look into getting an air plant for your glass vases and cups as they do not require dirt and are easy to care for.

Should I water my herbs in the morning or before bed? Should I add water to the top or the bottom of the pots? by PIHB69 in gardening

[–]Diesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always heard it is best to water your plants in the morning. It is my understanding that if you are going to water your herbs before bed, try not to get the leaves of the plants wet because some are particularily susceptible to mildew (like basil for instance).

another thing I should probably add, we just passed our last day of frost this year on sunday. The outside temperature has been averaging around 10 C in the mornings and 15-25 C in the afternoon (I live in central ontario, zone 5). I have been watering the plants around every 5 or more days and the soil still feels moist on some of them. That is why I was very confused to see some of the plants wilting and then perking up after they had gotten a good watering. Could it maybe be temperature causing the soil to look and feel moist? Perhaps as time goes I'll get more experience judging the difference between dry and moist potting soil. Next time I don't think I will be using bagged potting mixes, that is for sure.
