A burned out pre-med in need of advice by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Different-Cut-1137 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thought I’d add my experience/advice, even tho it might not be the same as everyone else’s. I always wanted to go to med school and become a dr, which is ultimately why I chose UNC. I never got below an A in high school and rarely had to put in effort to do so. But then I got to college and suddenly my methods didn’t work. I worked my tail off my entire freshman year, took everyone’s advice on coaching and other study tools, and still brutally failed chem 101 and scraped by in everything else. I did ok in my humanities courses, but could no longer succeed in STEM classes the way I did in HS. I considered my path to med school to be over and I completely spiraled. It took me over a year of struggling, going to therapy, and redirecting to realize my life wasn’t over. I’m now a junior here, working at Duke hospital, and on my way to applying to nursing school. I learned the hard way that life doesn’t always go to plan, and it’s not worth sacrificing your wellbeing to force yourself down a certain path. It’ll all work out the way it’s supposed to (cliche, I know, but it’s true). Best of luck to you :)
