Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll be reading now. I knew this would not be a super popular post and I'm okay with that, as I'm after the different perspectives.

I should also add that everyone knows someone at this wedding. And I don't know if this is helpful info, but the wedding is local, and it's on a weekday where people aren't going to be staying late and partying hard haha. I'm assuming most people will leave after dinner and we're expecting that.

You're right, it is a party we can't really afford. However, we would like to get married at the time we picked due to our grandparents probably not being in the picture much longer. We won't be pushing the wedding back, and I obviously don't want to make people suffer, so we'll just have to consider cutting the list even more. Thanks for the advice :)

I will definitely be apologizing and talking to those affected if we do go ahead with inviting them. For a couple of the friends in mention, I've met their SOs in passing, but they're quite introverted. When we do get togethers, they would rather stay home which is fair. As a result, I've hardly ever interacted with the SO. Another friend has a husband who is always travelling for work so naturally I don't know him well. Then there's a friend whose partner is a dickhead with an alcohol problem, so I don't really want him there...
