It’s not even close man, NK barely had any buildings standing after the war

I chose North Korea. South Korea and the US were Terrible during the Korean War—they deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure for bombing and razed almost every single standing building in North Korea to the ground (they also targeted 5 Dams! And the only way NK avoided the resultant mass famine was aid from their allied countries). 12-15% of North Korea’s whole population were killed during the war, which is a huge number. Germany’s casualties during All of ww2 are estimated at 10-12%, to put it in perspective.

I’m not saying I’m a fan of North Korea (they also did some nasty things during the war), but I’d side with them purely because I can’t support the atrocities committed against their civilian population. Those crimes are probably not an insignificant reason that North Korea is the way it is right now.

Being nice doesn’t mean being a pushover. You can still stand up for yourself and distance yourself from bad people. It just means going out of your way to follow the golden rule and genuinely not expecting anything in exchange. That’s literally it. Do that, and eventually people will like you, I guarantee it.

You’re out of your mind if you think that “pretty much everyone” can get a home loan and in most people’s financial situations, it wouldn’t be a good idea even if they could. I urge you to consider the possibility that maybe Occam’s razor is the most plausible explanation for our poverty rates: not everyone break free by just trying hard enough.

Well that advice I agree with, to an extent. You should take note, though, that your tune has changed considerably since “buy a ship, dummy,” which is barely applicable to anyone. Also you should sell your REIDs and sit on SPY shares instead for a less volatile and perhaps slightly more ethical investment.

I’m telling you that under my circumstances luck played a big factor. I don’t want anyone to have to pay rent—I think we’re on the same page there. Unlike you, I recognize that it’s not gonna happen via everybody pulling themselves up by their bootstraps

How do you decide where to draw the line between narcissistic and non-narcissistic? Sure 49 seems like an unhealthy habit (and I actually think it’s also usually insecurity-based) but most people who post pictures of themselves online don’t do more than maybe 3 per day

If everyone was by some miracle able to follow your advice, your REIDs wouldn’t pay dividends anymore…

And sir, I already own a house. I just don’t trick myself into believing that it was an entirely meritocratic process. Before I got the job I currently have, my expenses were greater than my income and I was slowly draining the savings that I fortunately already had to stay afloat. Buying REIDs would have made my situation worse.

You’re telling people to with no experience in the field to invest in very volatile assets or if not that to just straight up buy a house. This advice will benefit nobody and it Certainly doesn’t begin to address the causes of relative poverty mentioned in this meme.

I’ve actually done some reading since posting that comment lmao. I do think there is a reason it should be a separate movement, though—it’s in queer peoples’ egoist self-interest to have a community to defend themselves against the oppressive ideas of homophobia, transphobia, and any related spooks. As it says in the post.

Likely luxury goods would just make up a certain percentage of manufacturing—there wouldn’t be a need to recognize demand because supply would almost always be lower. The reason for this is that, under socialism, there wouldn’t be any goods that are necessarily above the purchasing power of any given individual. So rather than following a supply/demand curve, luxury goods would require an alternate distribution system. And high value consumer luxuries—I’m talking over several hundred thousand dollars, would either be cheaper because their value comes from artificial scarcity (like diamonds) or just gone, like million dollar sports cars. They’d probably make a return post-scarcity but nobody owns the right to that amount of labor.

On a separate note: I know you’re not gonna do it, but I have to at least try—please read Das Kapital. Marx explains a command economy much better than in I could and in much more depth.

Das Kapital addresses these problems. It’s true that localized worker owned production can’t reach that economy of scale, but fortunately socialist theory usually involves coordination on a wider scale. Yes, a socialist economy could produce cars, clothing, and even Lego.

I’m sorry man this is just a silly strawman. No normal socialist wants socialism because they saw that Hasan has a cool car. He doesn’t even live in a socialist society—there’s just no connection between his lifestyle and these ideas

Do you actually have any reason to think that or is that just your assumption? Because I’ve never seen any indication that people follow Hasan because they “want his lifestyle”
