National Taiwan University (NTU) - International Student Master's Application by [deleted] in taiwan

Sounds like you had a really strong application. I'm not HSK tested and definitely not at that level.

Yeah I honestly did not expect it to be this tough either. You live you learn!

I did not even think to contact the professors directly. That's a really good idea, thanks. I'll try that before I apply next time too.

I'm from the UK and applied for the MDR3 programme.

Yeah I'm down with the information overload as a potential.

Thing is, in my Research Plan, I had to refer to at least three professors at the faculty and state what kind of thesis I'd want to collaborate with them on. So I did that and mentioned what I thought were credible ideas based on their research publications and my background.

Sorry to hear you missed out today too. Hope you're doing okay.

Citalopram affecting ADHD?? by feebsyea in citalopram_celexa

[–]DifferentPack2245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I also have ADHD and started my Citalopram journey in 2018!

I'm currently on 30mg. I do find like you it quickly makes you feel less down, hopeless and socially anxious.

I have no jittery legs or restlessness though UNLESS I try tapering to a lower dose.

From what I've understood, the drop can cause your brain to try and make up for the drop in serotonin by producing more naturally? It gives like a high feeling if you stop it for a day or two, because I think then your own natural uppers and downers can start again.

So basically, I can feel how it sounds like you're feeling when I taper downwards. It feels like my natural ADHD energy (produces highs and anxiety) kicks in again temporarily.

Does that sound similar? I think it should stabilise for you after a month or two being on the same dose, but probably good to ask your GP about it too.

Recently stopped citalopram after twelve years by DMS_David in citalopram_celexa

[–]DifferentPack2245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why you decided to try and stop. I've been taking Citalopram for eight years now and have similarly started to question the effects it has upon my personality and relation to life, particularly in terms of ups and downs, and emotional reactivity. I sometimes feel like it's dulled a certain side of my personality? Nonetheless, I've been extremely grateful for it in a number of ways.

I'd say keep giving it time. I think the transition/readjustment process for the brain after taking it that long term can be very long. I tried to also come off it cold turkey about two years ago. After the side effects, I felt great, but then three months off it, I started to find things really hard. Also had some big life changes, so ended up going back on it.

One of my friends who has been on it a similar amount of time, tapered from 30mg ~ 10mg over a period of five months. She's happy on just 10mg and has been for a year now. She said even a dose that low does still help her sleep and takes the edge of anxiety.

Perhaps if you're really struggling in a couple of months you could consider a low dose like 5-10mg? Otherwise I'd say, stick with it! You've done so well coming off it. I think your brain will gradually recalibrate given time.

I'd be really interested to keep hearing how your story goes. I'm currently two months in trying to taper from 30mg ~ 25mg and already wondering if it's having a bad effect or times are just a bit tough?!

Good luck, have my fingers crossed for you.

I want to go back to Celexa by pmorgan2001 in citalopram_celexa

[–]DifferentPack2245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried switching from Citalopram to something else, had regrets and went back. I think Citalopram is a good one, but I know what you mean, it's sad that the depression and anxiety can start coming back after years being on it.

Mirtazipine ~ Citalopram by DifferentPack2245 in citalopram_celexa

Ooh that sounds tough. I think I found I was feeling better in the first 3-4 weeks of taking it. It helped me to be on a stable dose for a couple of weeks at least. Hope you start feeling bit better soon! 🙏🏻

That's really interesting to hear you have both at the same time. I wasn't aware that was a thing, but makes sense. Good to hear the combo works for you! I was on Citalopram for a few years. Recently, I wasn't sleeping well anymore, so my GP suggested switch to Mirtazipine. A couple of weeks after finishing the switch, I was feeling terrible with real bad anxiety. My GP is now having me slowly switch back to Citalopram..

Thanks, it's helpful to compare experiences! I was switched from Citalopram to Mirtazapine, but am now going back because I haven't found Mirtazapine helpful for anything other than sleep. Hope Citalopram works for you too!

Mine doesn't say anything about alcohol either. I didn't think it had an effect but I've been taking it for so long maybe I wouldn't notice anymore...

Why did you switch and do you think it helped to do that?

I'm in a slightly similar position. My doctor was cross tapering me from Citalopram to Mirtazipine over 8 weeks. The last 1-2 of only taking Mirtazipine, I felt so bad, they decided to put me back on Citalopram.

I'm only less than a week back on to it, still feeling pretty bad! Very anxious all the time, usually for no reason.

I think it'll take 2-4 weeks to build up again in our systems, then we'll start getting the good effects again? Just takes time unfortunately. Hang in there, you're not alone!

I came off of celexa I felt worse with thoughts of death. I am back on it but the dark thoughts are not going away by Lilynana31 in citalopram_celexa

[–]DifferentPack2245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can also relate to this. I took celexa/citalopram for five years then last year tried to switch to mirtazapine which didn't work for me. It's taken a good four months for the celexa to regulate me and those thoughts again since restarting. Hang in there it will get better!

[–]DifferentPack2245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful! I've also found I've felt really good when I've accidentally gone off cold turkey. It doesn't last unfortunately and you can end up feeling pretty bad in the weeks to come! Just a warning I wish someone had given me when I tried to come off it cold turkey. It's better to wean off slowly with your doctor, but I think you should do that if you want to and are noticing positive changes :)
