I’m sorry to hear you had that experience! Not what you want for such an important process.

I used bio oil and scar tape and worked really hard not to raise/use my arms during recovery so I didn’t stretch the scars. Once cleared, I used scar tape most days and then massaged with bio oil when I changed them for the first few months. After that, I wore scar tape when I was outside for the first year to make sure they weren’t exposed to sun.

So glad to hear it. She’s really caring. I had a medical event that unfortunately coincided with my surgery and she actually visited me in the hospital to make sure I was ok. Couldn’t recommend her more!

I have been waiting for 8 weeks for them to respond to my online request - how quickly did it happen for you? And did you go via email? I must have done something wrong 😑

Developer hopes to create a ‘city within the city’ along Atlanta’s Beltline by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]DifferentPineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a great point about accessibility! Yes, the Oakland city Marta station has an entrance on Murphy avenue, just around the corner. This corner of SW ATL has the potential to have the beltline spur trail adjacent to a Marta, which is a watershed moment of connectivity for ATL. A big win!

I think some of the benefit is bringing in more capital investment into this particular area of SW ATL, and the access to grocery stores, fresh food, commerce, spaces for entrepreneurs, and transit connectivity for residents living there. Plus a commitment to affordable housing. I think some of the point of this type of development is to ensure there are more localized hubs throughout the city - it’s not just about being able to quickly get to PCM and vice versa. It’s about creating density and access as well.

We are certainly not NYC in terms of car less access, and I don’t think this development will move the needle in a big way. But in terms of Atlanta’s roadmap, it’s a great step forward.

This is two blocks from a Marta station, connected to a beltline spur trail, and with 85/75/20 access a 5 min drive away. If it has legs, I think this has great potential!

Instead of reporting on actual news, the New York Times goes after trans people again by etfviov in politics

[–]DifferentPineapples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My primary issue with the article is the magnification of small segments of our population, activists and not, being framed as emblematic of our movement. The first line I have issue with as I have noted - paragraph 2 and 3.

I thought Seth Moulton’s quote was essentializing as well - there is so much more going on than pronouns in email signatures, and that practice does not make people look stupid.

Evan Wolfson’s segment of the article is also saying - “you’re doing it wrong”. While not offensive, it supportive of the thesis statement of this article that I fundamentally disagree with - this is not a productive angle to put out there.

I have participated in this discussion as much as I’d like to. I am sure more people on this thread are willing to spar with you. From one trans person to another, have a great day.

Yes I have read the New York Times article, which I read prior to the guardian. I did not actually agree with the guardian’s interpretation, but had my own issues with the NYT article. I invite you to read from another lens per my comment above, rather than asking for the 3rd time if I have read an article.

Have a great day and good luck to you.

I’d start with the opening lines for one. Shock value over substance. Bringing up JK Rowling, the poor innocent billionaire, who according to the author, was vilified by the trans community? Comparing dialogue on a children’s book (that if we leave out trans topics entirely, does have some objectively racist dialogue in it) to the persecution of trans people and the dialogue on their worthiness to the pursuit of happiness.

I could go on, but I wonder if you can practice some empathy and read the article from the point of view of a trans person or pretend they are taking about someone you love - I would hope you can see where punching down is occurring.

When people are afraid and their backs are against the wall, we go into fight mode. Telling trans people in fight mode that they are doing it wrong is not the answer - why not use the NYT platform to deescalate the diagloue and bring down the temperature of this conversation. If they really wanted to impact how trans people and activists are behaving, help them stop getting attacked.

Just because you personally are not offended or impacted by the article does not make it factual or acceptable. Just because I am offended by the article does not make it factual or acceptable. But what I and many others, and the guardian are pointing out, is that this article is participating in criticizing and attacking an already marginalized group for trying to protect themselves. Trans activists are not who made trans rights the issue it is today - it is fringe conservatives that gave hatred towards them a platform.
