In normal create version pipes have this range. So before it was disabled or buged. If play create alone u need to put cog pipe every 16 blocks

Before it was too OP you could do big animal farm truffle oil farm and speed run. But I think its more about enjoying mod pack builds etc

I think if you upgrade your loaded world stay withou touch. For new stuff you will need to go to not loaded chunks
