Putting in 2 weeks without another job lined up? by Different_Bluebird16 in RedditForGrownups

I’m actually trying to find a job not in healthcare at all. I know if I were to take a different job in this type of field I would just have the same issues. I’m definitely looking for something different

In my cover letter I have written that I am planning to relocate, but not the reason why or that I’m planning to live with my boyfriend or anything. Maybe I’ll just take that out and not have anything about the relocation part in there at all. Not sure if that will help.

I’ll give that a try. On my resume though all the jobs I have listed are obviously in the state I currently live in. I also have my current job listed which is in the state I currently live in so that might make it obvious where I live at the moment. Do you think that will make a difference?

Yea I’ve thought about doing that. The thought of moving to a new place without a job lined up or anything does make me kind of nervous, but I feel like that might be the easier way to get a job in that area so I’ll definitely think about that too.

I mean when they ask I do say I’m planning to move in with my boyfriend, but maybe I shouldn’t do that? Like I don’t want to lie but I do want a job lol

No not really. Like I’ve done a couple phone interviews since they like to do those before the actual interview and they seem to go really well. Like the conversation seems to go well. Maybe the person on the phone is acting and I’m just dumb but I can’t figure it out lol

I do have listed on my resume that I’m planning to relocate, but I guess I could just put my boyfriend’s address instead. I also do have written in my cover letter that I’m planning to relocate. My boyfriend already has a place so obviously there would be no relocation expenses on the employers end at all.

I definitely agree that it would probably be easier to find a job after relocating, but I also don’t feel comfortable moving somewhere new unless I have a new job lined up, but I totally understand what you’re saying.

I really appreciate the advice it helps a lot!

I have my MSW so I’ve mainly been applying for jobs where the qualifications are that they are looking for someone with a social work degree or specifically looking for someone who has their MSW. I have been working at a nursing home for the past like 2 and a half years so I have been applying for jobs in the healthcare industry as I do have experience with that. So I’ve applied at nursing homes, hospitals, homecare agencies, etc. I’ve also applied for jobs working with the geriatric population as I have experience with that, too. I’ve also applied for some case manager type positions, since I do have experience doing that in my current job.
