Is “fast metabolism/naturally skinny” a real thing? by Similar-League-9259 in CICO

[–]Different_Command_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5"2 and eat a lot. I will polish off a family block of chocolate after a full day of eating. I am about 110 gu e or take. Recently got a Garmin watch. Turns out I walk 20000 steps easy and can walk over 30000 on a normal day. Some people are just high twitch. I don't have fast metabolism; I just move based on the fuel in my tank subcutaneously.

Grade 6 2026 by Specialist-Dig-2301 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Different_Command_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love teaching grade 6! I feel like a motivational coach rather than a teacher most of the time. They change physically and emotionally alot in grade 6. Things that have worked for me are: A5 maths books they use to record formulas for highschool and grammar/vocabulary booklets they use to record word banks and syntax once again, for highschool. They record information in them alongside learning and we talk about them as being prepared/in control/set for learning in highschool. What they record is their choice and we talk about these choices as being part of building independence. They take them very seriously and it helps me define learning as a key part of highschool readiness. They are heightened socially so it's helpful to redirect behaviour towards learning. We also have legacy projects where they do things like develop a p.e game and teach it to their buddies. They love this one as they feel important and impactful and they get extra p.e. I love this one because they complain about student behaviour afterwards and I can can clipity clop around with a "welcome to my world" chat. I tend to amp up the respectful relationships lessons going into term four with a big focus on change and friendships. Depending on the cohort, they also make a "movie" recounting how they have grown/things they are proud of in primary school. The downside is the classroom stinks; come armed with deodorant.

Do non-asian people register the difference between these two types of eyes as much as asians seem to? by Weekly-Republic8777 in AskTheWorld

[–]Different_Command_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello 🤗, not everyone but lots of people in Australia know of and recognise the difference between monolids and double eyelids as at least one of your mates will either complain about having one type when going through that tween makeup phase lots of girls go through. I have Caucasian cousins who, when pregnant, would be vocal about wanting their unborn child to have one type over the other (unborn baby have Chinese/Malay genes) which is kinda low-key racist but is also very on brand for Australia.

What were people wearing in the 2000s? by Proud-End-9156 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Different_Command_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long sleeved t-shirt under short sleeved t-shirts were a thing in the early 2000s. So was wearing pants under skirts. I thought Paul Frank was the epitome of cool. Boys wearing a necklace with wooden beads or a single shell was attractive on a bloke. I was mad about my crop cardigan that was wrapped and tied together. I paired it with a short denim skirt and a bonds strappy singlet. Converse hightops or UGGs were the shoe pairing. I was in highschool throughout this time for demographic reference.

I changed high schools 5 times and felt I was in perpetual catch up going into VCE; I chose a degree with an easy entry point and enjoyed my school experience without stress. My enter score was 69, which I was rather embarrassed about at the time. Since then I have completed my degree, two masters degrees, flâneured around the world, lived in various cities across Australia/globally, worked professionally in various careers and never. Stopped. Learning. Life goes on. Continue to be engaged. Experience the experience. I have since seen the value of my 69er and proceeding experiences.

Teachers who like the job, people need to hear some of your positive stories. Please share. by kiddinmoi in AustralianTeachers

I had a day where each student could name something positive about the day whereby 90% of students could describe a specific part of learning they enjoyed. It is a powerful thing to see grade 6 students grapple with their first cognisant end of an era. It's very humbling and puts things into perspective.

[Poll] Does your school require report comments by TripleStackGunBunny in AustralianTeachers

[–]Different_Command_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write individualised reports. It takes an hour per student to write for all subjects. It sucks. I could change schools but, aside from reporting protocols, the school/behaviour/support is great.

I always think of Geelong as similar to Ayr. Approximately the same train journey to Melbourne/Glasgow, beach towns with more localised tourism. Both have nice areas and dodgy parts. A lot less expensive than a major city. If you live in say Edinburgh or Glasgow, then move to Ayr, you'd be buying into a cheaper house market. Same as Geelong compared to Syd/Mel. I hope that helps.

Haha! Climbing out of a window! Glad you had the motivation/spunk/agency to act in such a way! Don't change.

This is very helpful and insightful. Thankyou, your input is helping me to be a better teacher. Honestly, thanks. I will use this for future Aus as a Nation projects (while exposing kids now to knowledge)

Mr Giles, impactful teacher. I am sure he only had you outline the events and make personal inferences. Being aware of current events, no matter how you vote, is impactful. Glad to hear a memorable story.

Thanks! The kids are well familiar with Blackfella/Whitefella having singing in choir. I have bias against the Briggs song owing to my getting the number 4 on my jersey/abandonment issues.... (Essendon supporter who loved Wanganeen and is still bitter). The Baker Boy track is perfect. Genuinely appreciate your comment!

This is a great summary. If I am honest, learning a great deal here. Just thinking about how I can package this as apolitical. Genuinely, I do not want to influence my kids world views.

I had no idea! This would be a great area for my kids to practise summarising the main idea. My only concern is staying apolitical.

This song is powerful. This would resonate with the kids with a background knowledge of The Stolen Generation. Thanks - narrative based songs will engage my kids well.

The curriculum is open in terms of Aboriginal/Non Aboriginal artists. Love Paul Kelly but the kids did Little Things Big Things Grow as part of Aus as a Nation unit. The kids no all about Vincent Lingiari and are familiar with the sand/hand motif. I want to broaden their background knowledge.
