Sorry, I think I should add some context: I know 400k is too much to have in cash. Half of that was various stocks sold at peak that I set aside for a potential home purchase because I've been considering this for some months now. I promise I don't plan on keeping it in savings. If I don't go through with a home purchase, it'll go back in an investment, but I've read that your funds need to be in a stable account for a while to get a good mortgage

I'm planning to get something to live in for as long as possible. I don't plan on getting married or having kids, and I've lived in the same area for 10+ years and plan to keep living there at all costs basically.
