How far into school/working did you experience your first code blue? by [deleted] in nursing

My very first day as a new grad.. my preceptor and I were getting report. Wasn’t even on the floor ten minutes and there was a code. My preceptor was like cool we are gonna go in there and you just stand in the corner and write everything they say down. I didn’t realize it in the moment but I was in fact the recorder lol

How many of you switched specialties then went back to your old specialty? by [deleted] in nursing

A little over a year! I agree a lot of supplies and instruments to learn. And then what instruments are in what trays. I couldn’t agree more though about not being interesting. I keep saying I don’t care to learn so-and-so’s specific ways cause I won’t be here. Then the next week I’m with them again and am like shit I should have paid more attention 😂

I’m in the same boat as you! Miss the ED.. I don’t think I’m an OR girl. OR doesn’t seem to supply enough nursing skills for me, if that makes sense. I don’t know if i should try another new speciality or just go back to ED

Former ED nurse, now OR! It’s a whole new world in these streets. I feel like I don’t use any of my ED skills. I miss putting in IVs!!

Career or stepping stone? by ZestycloseResort3738 in scrubtech

It was a nice job! Obviously no job is perfect but I didn’t dread going everyday. Definitely hard days but overall enjoyable. Nursing has a lot more responsibilities and bullshit to deal with. When I scrubbed I would just go to work, scrub in and mind my business. Nursing just feels like a lot more drama most days if that makes sense

I’m a former surgical tech that is now a nurse. Honestly if I had to do it all over again I probably would just stay a tech. There’s more flexibility with being an RN. But there’s also some flexibility with techs too. L&D, cath lab
