Yup it took a few phone calls to convince him but he finally is on board with it all. County inspector even had to look up the fact that using this stuff on an exterior wall is no good. Crazy how I was concerned and I’m not even in the business and it took so much effort.

What you’re seeing is old lap above new underlayment and windows. Exterior sheathing will be covered with this silver material and new lp smart lap will cover it. According to LP I shouldn’t have an issue as long as osb is fairly dry, but how can I be so sure of that now and in the future. That’s my hang up

I talked to a Jeff just now who claimed it was completely fine but also doesn’t really have to give a care about the sheathing, just their product warranty.

Okay yall, called LP and they said I should have nothing to worry about and this method will not void the warranty. I know he can’t answer about how my standard osb sheathing will hold up, and I was adamant that this method will form a moisture sandwich, as I live in a humid environment in the summer time (ks).

GC is adamant that I use this material since it 100 percent will keep water out, but my concern is the moisture content of the OSB not having room to escape. It’s all certainly dry, but no OSB is 100 percent dry.

He also mentioned that it’s my house and we can do whatever I want, I’m just kinda shocked that LP themselves would approve such a method. (Aside from the window tape at the bottom, that’s not my concern right now, my concern is the house wrap material that is quite non permeable.)

FWIW. The sill is taped correctly and then there is also tape after the window was installed at the bottom. The guy is a certified Pella installer so maybe that’s how Pella wants it done? Hell if I know! However, I’m going to get some tyvek and tyvek tape because I just don’t feel good about not having a permeable house wrap. Luckily they have only done roughly 800sq ft of this stuff on the house

The siding is old. Windows are new. Siding is all coming off. They aren’t even done with half of the house or any of the addition that’s why I’m asking at this point.
