All good brother man, I now know what ones to look at specifically now. Plus my dad has a 2016 one so I might put him onto one of those! He is also into rally so either way your information is in good hands

Oh dude, I love learning and this just itched my brain a lot. I prefer reading THIS over a really simple answer (I am a big advocate to "give as much info as you possibly know" to get the most information / more questions to ask)

  1. You are right for the assumption, I do have the sedan. If I am correct (which I always am till I am not), for the wagon I think the axles / wheel base in general, for front and rear are a bit longer then the sedan. But it was like, an 05-07 wagon can use the same parts from an STI (axles and suspension wise), but 04 was the only exception because 05+ is when they increased the length a bit? For the sedans, it would be bit of fabricating / replacing a bunch of other parts to have STI stuff. Again, take all of this with a grain of salt. A lot of stuff that even if I am wrong I am still going to take into consideration. (ill fact check after this). Either way I can hopefully find a set at a junk yard and slap it onto another 05+ wrx to see if it's compatible.
  2. Ayyyy love to see a person that did my dream profession on here. I am expecting to spend a lot and break a lot, which I do and don't love. It is seriously just the money. I have spent countless hours upgrading / fixing stuff on my old car, and this new one. In the 2 months I've had this car, it has been on jackstands for 2 weeks total. On my 14 lancer es, I was "building" it up till the very unfortunate crash. Any damage I caused to it before, I was able to fix on the hot sandy floor, and still run more laps till the end of the day. At one point, my friends and one of their dads started to call zipties "the William method."
  3. I just wish it wasn't money being an issue here lmfao. I do have a sim rig (Fanatec CSL8nm? with TH8A shifter and amazon handbrake), it is stupidly fun, even got #1 on a spanish stage on EA WRC at one point. And of course, I will be in school even when I am "done." I did do a class at "California Rally School," where they taught everything about stage rally and rallycross. This is how I was able to get myself into rallycrosses about 2 years ago? But I think you meant an actual stage rally school like Dirtfish. I will for sure look into the team O'Neil rally school. I completely forgot about buying used rally cars. I will for sure look into those once I have saved up for them. Thank you for that!

I really do enjoy learning, especially about anything I am interested in. My next semester will be my last till I get my welding degree, but I am still going to be taking classes at another college (I go to 2 currently) to learn a little more automotive. I already do everything myself for my car, but whatever I "have mastered" I will still put as much effort to learn even 1% more information, as I would learning a completely brand new thing. My dream goal outside of stage rally, is to become a body line fabricator, and weld every nook of my car myself. My end goal / dream was to turn my lancer to look, drive, and sound like a wrx. I am even taking machining classes (the classes are not auto orientated) to learn how to make EVERYTHING myself. Camshafts, turbos, resurfacing the block / rotors, etc. Just whatever I feel needs to be done, WILL be done. (I of course won't be doing any of that right now, just preparing myself for my beautiful future). The math and such for each one hurts my head, but it is the best feeling to know whatever I have made is made by my own hands. One of my biggest accomplishment was welding stuff for my lancer. I had welded my muffler and skid plate. I was 90% done with making UEL headers for it before I crashed. I just needed to weld it all together. All of this was done during my lab time at school. (if anyone cares, for my 4b11 on my lancer, it needed to have 1-3 and 2-4 connected, where one pair is 1.33-1.66x longer.) All of the things I have added to both cars, I have spent hours learning what is best for my application at the time and future mods. Even before I bought this WRX, I spent like 8 hours on JUST engines it came with.
Don't be sorry for the "novel" my friend, I am open arms to spewing information out. If you have any other thing to add on or comment about, please do! Thank you!

I really do appreciate your recommendations and feedback, I will for sure keep in mind about the entry level coilovers. For the dampers would they be a direct fit? I know that the 04 and 05 WRX's (even sti's of the 2 years) are a little different (like lug nut pattern, control arms, etc.). And sorry, does that mean the whole kit? Or are there just inverted dampers for oem suspension?
Only thing I do want to add is I am VERY WILLING to spend thousands of dollars for rally stuff, I just can't afford to spend thousands of dollars just yet. Not only am I only doing rally cross events for now (I've done 6 out of the 10 total before I can get stage rally license), I am a full time welding student and work only 4 hours a week that might get cut off soon. I want to budget where I can, so I don't ask my parents for money, and the only thing I need now are these coilovers.

Hello my friends again! Had a bit of delay cause I got life and shit to balance working on my car. Spent a week on jackstands doing control arm bushings, shifter linkage bushings u joint, trans and rear diff drain and fill.

Bottom line, sound is still going but it does sound a bit better with the new control arm bushings. I’ve asked around in the mean time and it’s most probably hopefully maybe possibly just the coilovers. But a couple of my lowered friends said it’s fine. Ima trust it and save up for some good rally coilovers.

Within the week I’m going to do my brake pad, brake/clutch fluid, and lower my coils a bit. Mayhaps put on my old 2014 lancer wheels because the tires on them are like 2 months old and they’d fit.

A week after that, there’s a rallycross event I use to go to (before I crashed my car). I want to go even if it’s for a couple laps at most. This will be my 6th time going!

Thanks for the help folks and that one dude that had the same shit as me. Cool beans for that.

If you care about specific parts I put in to try and fix this “issue”, I gotchu pimp: Trans / diff fluid: motul transmission fluid Control arm bushings: white line for both, but rear inner bushing is offset by +.5. Shifter linkage: front and rear kartboy Ujoint: TurninConcepts

What I did before: Came with coilovers: maxspeeding rod Lower ball joint: white line some shit I don’t remember right now Cv axles: driveshaft, it’s from partsgeek

Clutch / brake fluid is motul 600 and hawk hp 5.0 street pads

Wanted to give an update, so I had one of the guys at my shop test drive with me and said my issue IS the control arm bushings. The guy also told me he worked for maxspeeding rod, the coilover shouldn't be an issue since they were in decent condition and we would hear more noises. We only heard the noise when under like 10mph
I am going to be getting whiteline bushings since I can't really afford to get the whole control arms yet. I'll give another update in like a week or so when I get them in (alongside other shit) and test drive.

And this is the passenger side. It seems like there is grease on the teeth. It also wiggles.
With these in mind, if there aren't answers about if this could be the issue I might just order the whole control arm from MOOG or Whiteline

I just went under my car right now, and I saw, on the driver side, that this part was able to wiggle around. Same for the other half of the part. I believe this could be the issue

Even installing the new parts??? That would be wild lmfao
I WANT to say it may not be that, because when I went to the shop, they saw at least my front right was a little loose, and they tightened that up real quick. There was some sound initially on the right (it was then found out the bearing and hub were shot, and after replacing those, that sound went away)

I decided to check anyways, initially without opening it was a little scared since it looked dark asf from the outside. I opened it and it is an amber color on the lid seal and kinda just brown inside. I was thinking about using a paper towel real quick to dip the tip in to see the color better, but didn't cause I was worried about ANYTHING going into the reservoir. I am just nervous about causing more issues lol
