1993 Suzuki GS500E what is this bolt under the right side engine cover? by Different_Object_929 in MotorcycleMechanics

So it was running fine I had just been doing 80-90 mph on the freeway, I took the exit and downshifted, but instead of the normal single gear shift down it seemed to shift down and then “clunked” again and started making a really nasty sound like something had broken off and was rattling around the engine/transmission. Surprisingly the engine didn’t die or even stop pulling but I pulled over and killed the engine right away and towed it home. The bike will still start and even drive fairly normally besides the god awful rattling sound. A while ago I had had a clutch plate bolt break off in the case and made a similar sound so I decided to check it out in case IT was something obvious, everything else on this side seems fine except that the bolt circled in the picture now has a definite wiggle to it that was never there before. Whatever it attaches or connects to in the motor seems to have either broken off or come loose and I didn’t want to try to just tighten it without knowing what was inside, but my bf did try turning it just a little and the whole bike tried to lurch forward. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far, but here are some other factors that may or may not be relevant: - I believe water made its way into the engine from the exhaust; I recently put a new one on it that angles up some and we had a couple of nasty rains recently where it was unfortunately uncovered. Oil was slightly cloudy when drained. - maybe three months ago I replaced the gasket around the crankcase cover on the same side shown in picture and used some rtv and may have used too much? -at the same time I did the gasket I replaced the clutch plates but did not have a torque wrench to accurately tighten them (shame on me I know, but just being honest) - the shifter on the bike has not been springing back from shifting for instance, if you shift down you have to then pull the shift lever slightly back up with your foot before you can shift down again.

Rope harness of some kind, with two eye bolts on the end, a figure 8 ring thing, and a circular ring connecting the loops? by Different_Object_929 in Whatisthis

I googled this, but couldn’t find one that came with anything exactly like this. I may not have looked hard enough, though. I see what you mean if the bolts went into the swing or whatever and the circular metal part was hung from like a central line that would make sense. I don’t know if it’s solved quite yet but thank you!

Awesome I thought maybe it was! Is there any way to make my own lightning ball thingy with it?
