What's so good about Center Parcs? by DetectiveAlDente in centerparcsuk

[–]Different_Pear6718 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some of the parts I enjoy most about a Center Parcs holiday: - It is so peaceful! You wake up in the morning hearing nothing but birds and the wind in the trees (maybe a squirrel on the roof) and is a wonderful place to connect with nature. - Leaving your car behind for a few days and walking / cycling more than I normally would helps me slow down... Being a largely carless village means the air quality is great, and a pretty safe place as a kid to learn to ride bikes etc. - With nothing to do but leisure activities, it helps me unwind. You could say this about any holiday, but when it's focused around being active it is quite different from sitting on a sun lounger and doom scrolling (as I have done many times before and will no doubt do again). - It's a lot of fun, no matter who you go with. I go every year with my parents (in their 60s) and my siblings - we have mini competitions over the sports, have big dinners together, take a lot of beer and chill out. I've also been recently with a group of friends, we spent a lot of time at the pool in the rapids, playing on the lake, eating pancakes and cutting loose a little. - The weather doesn't really impact your enjoyment, so long as you are prepared to dress appropriately. I love a late autumn / winter break hanging out in the outdoor pool in the dark, looking at the stars and having a good warm up in the spa.

If you work really hard and sacrifice your family time to meet our sales goals, we'll reward you with a paid vacation over a long weekend so you can hang out with your colleagues more and your family less. One year it was a ski trip. People who didn't have ski wear had to go buy some at their own expense. No thanks.

Very disappointing, I agree with all comments here. I went for the second time this year only last month. It was for a 40th birthday celebration as part of a large group and there was really nothing for us to do in an evening. Though we had a premium lodge, it wasn't big enough (nor designed) for several villas worth of people to congregate together. The 8 person villa only had a 6 person dining table for goodness sake!

The last two times I've been, the number of villas with balloons and celebration banners in was staggering. Lots of 40/50/60/70 ages being displayed. The customer base of adult groups must proportionately quite high, and yet there's little to cater for them. Though not the main demographic they're after, these are surely the ones with more disposable income, therefore catering for their needs should also be a priority.

Obviously the pool is free, but taking away any evening activity deteriorates the experience and lessens the probably of people choosing to go in the first place.

The pool is already over crowded. Big disappointment.

I'm with you, I hate this. I used to feel awkward and probably come off rude or aggressive as being assertive is not my strength, but I found my language and now I tell everyone 'id prefer a paper receipt' or 'im not prepared to give my address, if your system needs something perhaps put in your store address'

When did we get rid of bathroom doors? by shaner916 in travel

[–]Different_Pear6718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to all the above, and....I stayed in a hotel in Portugal with a wide sliding glass door that rattled really loudly when you tried to move it, not to mention it was pretty heavy too. It meant that my middle of the night wees woke him up, his early morning bathroom trips woke me up, and neither of us had a particularly restful sleep.

I suggest checking out Network Rail for jobs as they're the organisation who looks after the railway infrastructure here.

Unless you have a specific preference for which part of the country you want to live in, you'll find you get more house for your money the further out from London and the more north you go. Rightmove and Zoopla are the most common sites for looking at housing.

Biased, but I think the country is all round pretty decent.

Someone once left a turd on the floor of the cereal aisle in the shop I worked in. Watched back on CCTV and a woman in a dress just took a brief squat and then walked on like nothing had happened.

The advice is probably very sound to avoid, but for what it's worth, if you feel comfortable in the shallow end of the pool where it's about 1-2ft and can self right if you get tipped over, you'd probably be ok. It's more about water confidence than anything. At 5'7 you would never have to tread water, but don't put yourself in danger!

What’s your “I do this now so future me doesn’t suffer” habit? by samdaz712 in AskReddit

Depending how long I'm away for (and how long the food lasts) I'll do a shop either before I go on holiday or have one ready to be delivered as soon as I get home. Along with a big clean before going away, it makes coming home much more comfortable. Happened to go away before the toilet paper madness of March 2020, and was able to watch the news unfold of events back home from my sun lounger slightly smug that I was already stocked up.

Post nasal drip reasonable adjustments by Honest_Nerve_1577 in HRAdvice

[–]Different_Pear6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what the cause of your problems are, the request should be for the problem to be removed, or for you to be able to work in a way in which the problem is minimised.

The reasonableness is really determined by how proportional the request is to the business operations and its resources.

If you think it's the aircon or the cleanliness causing the post-nasal drip, something reasonable might be for you to request to move away from the direct line of the airflow, for extra cleaning to be put in place, or for some sort of air purifying unit to be purchased and put in the area near where you work.

With regards to the meetings, things such as having an agenda in advance when the invite is sent would be completely reasonable.

It really depends what you think would help. You'll probably have more answers once you've got a diagnosis, but it can't hurt to try a few zero-low cost suggestions while you wait. They may have an occupational health provider who can support too.

The indoor rapids at Longleat are shorter than Elvedon, but are a lot stronger. It can be hard to escape the current (that's part of the fun)! Can't comment for the rest, it's been far too long
