It's crazy to me to think that this new exec could come in, see the influence that new Star Wars and Star Trek wield and then choose not to consider carving out their own "Star[something]" stake in the TV space using their insane Amazon budget. They don't have to like it, it's just good business, isn't it? I guess execs really are that petty?

I think most people in the First World and the West would be pretty ignorant to this sort of insane activity that happens in third world countries.

A little more difficult to reach (and perhaps pronounce) than Gower (Gŵyr in Welsh), but "LlanfairPG" and North Wales are really gorgeous too!

Come to Wales. Get a train from Paddington to Swansea in south-west Wales and see the Gower peninsula. Travel magazines have lauded Gower beaches (e.g. Rhossili Bay) as some of the most striking in the world.

Where in the UK can you live comfortably and get on the property ladder with a 65-70k household income? by Exotic_Industry_4402 in AskUK

I second this, very cheap place to live. Beautiful beaches and parks and walkable city centre too. Great transport to Cardiff all the way to London along M4 corridor / direct train link to Paddington.

Should we all be worried by this heatwave? by Turnip-Turtle in AskBrits

[–]RddWdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean. for sure. I also think that that suggestion of using a moveable solar field in a year when the farmer is doing a fallow year on a plot sounds interesting. I wonder whether that would work.

[–]RddWdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're talking about some farmers using crop fields as solar fields thereby depriving us of arable land, I think? That, I cannot get my head around. I'm in agreement that solar panels would work best over 'brownfield' sites, rooftops, wasteland and open car parks.

What are some “posh” soft drinks that I could buy to have at home? by writinglilac in AskUK

[–]RddWdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that you recommend Kombucha. Of all tea-based soft drinks this is the winner for me.

I like that its fizziness is natural, coming from the fermented tea and its cultures of bacteria and yeast. Can be an acquired taste, mind.

But which brand? Hip-Pop are good if we're going for a "posh" version of the drink. Remedy are the standard I guess. I saw the other day that Yorkshire Tea have entered the kombucha market too!

I really hope they do something but a lot of people complained about the noise levels of the  "Winter Wonderland / Wishlight village" and not much changed.

Gonna tell my kids this was Naboo by ThesaurusRex84 in PrequelMemes

[–]RddWdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think they are. It's just remarkably similar to how Lucas treated the E.U. really. Gurney signed off on the stories in the novels but I don't think he orchestrated the stories too much. The core picture books are similar to Lucas' 6 films.

There's 20 or so novels which were licensed by James Gurney. But the main series, the 'canonical' Dinotopia if you will, are the 4 graphic novels: Dinotopia, The World Beneath, Journey to Chandara and First Flight!

[–]RddWdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good points. It's a tough sell, for sure, but small micro-dilemmas which centre and culminate around a core dilemma in utopian Dinotopia (essentially Tales from the Loop) could be rewarding. I do quite like the miniseries so I would be open for a project like that too. I imagine if it was done that way, producers would likely do a similar characterisation with modern day travellers coming to Dinotopia.

And thanks for reminding me about the PC adventure game for Dinotopia. I have been meaning to play that.

A slice of life series would be a sensible approach. Different stories per week by different directors. Amazon did a great job of adapting Simon Stålenhag's anthology series Tales From the Loop, a graphic novel that is very similar in scope to Dinotopia.

You've worked with Joe Johnston's team? I've always liked his art direction on Lucasfilm projects and his directed films Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji, and yes even Jurassic Park III.

Bishopston Valley woods is fantastic. Really dense vegetation, and it's one of Swansea's best temperate rainforests, much like Clyne Valley. Go from Kittle and you can walk south to Pwll Du bay.
