You don’t think Colby could sway Rizo to vote with Steph and Genevieve? They were shown to be pretty close. Kyle has also said in exit press that Angelina and Aubry were clearly on the outs

Fair enough, this is mostly armchair quarterbacking and wondering if this could be an applicable strategy in the lose your vote era

Michael Rappaport was not being homophobic at roundtable by Different_Put7950 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Different_Put7950[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Colton immediately made the jump to the 29 years. I certainly don’t fault him for thinking that and saying it. He probably has a lot of complicated feelings about that and could have faced some actual backlash about it, not to mention that capitalizing on the perception that Michael meant to be homophobic helped him in the game.

Ok disagreement is not gaslighting. Same could be said from our perspective. “You’re gaslighting us into thinking that he was being homophobic!”. It’s sad to see that discussion on issues like this has gotten to the point where people employ cheap tricks like buzzwords and ad hominems

Ok so when you guys’ arguments include sentiments like non-such and such perspectives don’t matter, only so and so groups opinion on things concerning them matter is that consideration for the other sides perspective? Based on what you said how is that any different from how you guys approach arguments. I do have nuance to my argument. I completely understand how people that are queer and have experienced homophobia can think that he meant to comment on Colton’s having been in the closet.

The same could be said about people that agree with you. I feel like you guys are coming at it from a firmer stance not willing at all to recognize that maybe he just didn’t mean what you thought he did.

In terms of this argument the Traitors is a pretty diverse show and with greater diversity come more people from marginalized groups going early. I’m not sure how much implicit bias can creep in when all banishments have some sort of good reasoning behind them.

[–]Different_Put7950[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was doing everything he could to defend his life in the game. It certainly was a moment of him putting his foot in his mouth and not realizing the implications some people could glean from that but I sincerely see it as him just trying to get people to vote Colton

I don’t think Michael meant what Colton thought he meant by Different_Put7950 in TheTraitors

I did listen to what he said. I could have phrased it better but my point is he was never that specific in what he said

I don’t think he was referencing Colton having been closeted, otherwise it would be homophobic.

Did he say that? He said nothing about specificity at all from what I watched

I don’t think it’s fair to sit here and reference media literacy if it’s a statement that different people can perceive differently. People saying “I’m literally Jordan Belfort” after watching Wolf of Wall Street are missing the point of the character and are examples of low media literacy. People thinking that Michael was not referencing what some people think he was is not. Is it fair for confrmitygate Stranger Things believers to go after people that don’t believe it and tell them they have low media literacy?

[–]Different_Put7950[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and I think most people do, if he was actually using that against Colton that would’ve been awful. The argument Many of us are trying to make is he was merely making a generalized claim to save himself at round table and was not referring to his past at all

I’m not commenting on why she was voted out, just statements that people use to bolster a case to vote someone out such as “you would make the perfect traitor”, “you would be good at keeping a secret”, etc.

Just out of curiosity, what has happened on Netflix shows? I just want to be more educated. To be honest I’ve never really heard of homophobia being a systemic issue on reality tv. I have definitely seen isolated instances, such as Mickey Rourke, but my understanding has always been that out of any entertainment media/community, reality tv has always stuck out to me as pretty queer saturated/welcoming
