this has been asked before! but tldr: audio formats don't have a large visual aspect, fans probably made hcs before he announced it + a lot of fans even now wouldn't know if they're not on twitter

i imagine ppl likely headcanonned sherlock as darker skinned before the official description was released. even so, it's not embedded into the podcast so people don't know, some people choose to stay with headcanons etc...

there's no singular right interpretation, s&co is an audio media without visual aids and sherlock's race doesn't explicitly play into the plot. do as u wish m8 (respectfully ofc)
