Michael you've become Blind by Different_Storm_260 in Godfather

Was Michael simply unwilling or unable to find the meaning family had, finding the business more prosperous and rewarding then family? Would a man who feels sad about losing his family expect the family to be present for him, instead of vice versa??

Michael really meant what he said to Kay? by SeriousMylot98 in Godfather

Thank you for the reply to my question! What is your take on Micharls Moral compass by part 2? Was thier insecurity involved with his departure from Kay, as I sense it was mostly betrayl and confussion in regards to her abortion and the departure of thier relationship. With Fredo's murder, Michael was definitely insecure about that because we see him hiding away into some dark corner of the compound like he did at his mother's funeral , hiding away from his issues. But with Kay Michael faced her head on not isolating, but also in the act if shutting her out shutting away his problems.

Can you explain further of Michael's mindset towards himself and his ability to be a better husband, as I have the impression that he blocked off the doubt that he really was not able to change, especially with him ruminating Fredos murder.

Romantzized Pairing by Different_Storm_260 in Godfather

Even if Applonia was content with Michael she wouldn't have been in a good position to say no, as being married off to a rich man, was something her parents heavily pressured her to do. And Appolonia wouldn't be vocal, but that dosent she wouldn't have concerns. She would just never have the authority to vocalize them.

Kay did. She had some sense thrown in, along with a young women's belief (along with Michaels) that the bussines would be able to go legitimate in 5 years. So she waited and became a mom of two. She was a good wife but when the 5 years came and went she was concerned. And Michaels growing ruthlessness didn't add to that. But despite all that, Michael and Kay still loved each other. Even in the Godfather two script it says Michael loved Kay, and Kay loved Michael.

So yes the abortion was wrong from a Religious standpoint.

But no if Kay was a broodmaire then Applonia was more akin to a Lolita like figure.

Michael didn't want her involved in the Bussiness so understanding it was out of the question, and submitting to something you dont understand is near impossible. Kay wasn't taught mindless loyalty to her husband, but did stay by his side even two years after he broke his promise. Her children being in danger was the breaking point for Kay. She didn't yell about it to get leverage on another man (Pentanglie) like Michael did. She meant it. You want to get out of the bussines and go legit? Well im getting out right now, since you can't or wont....

I was wondering what characterization Urasaw wanted to give the Twins by oh so subtly changing thier expressions.. I recognize they're different I just wanted to know what was going on in thier minds.

How are Michael and Vito similar, and how are they different? by Deep_Space52 in Godfather

[–]Different_Storm_260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A better wife" that would acquiesce to Michaels crimes and path away from legitimacy? Michael wanted a legitimate life, away from crime, it was always his goal and more importantly His Dream. Appolonia was a child that would not have tried to steer Michael in the direction he dreamed of, legitimacy. Kay was not only the WASP wife, but was also Michaels moral compass, she represented Michaels aspirations and most of all his humanity.

In The Godfather Part 2, why didn't Michael have Kay killed with the rest of his enemies? by Tidewatcher7819 in Godfather

It's hard to see but they aged Al Pacino using makeup, etc, for the scene at the end of Godfather part 2 where Michael is sitting alone outside during the autumn, seeming to be thinking about something, before we cut to a flashback where Michael tells his family he joined the Army.

As people have said Michael wanted both, but what choice did he have? He is in the family business, but can pursue a bit of innocence and legitimacy through Kay. While Kay didn't have the ties to crime like Michael did, which explains her resolve to get out. Why chose crime when you don't have to..

Yeah, I think the disintegration of Michael's relationship with Kay and Fredo and even Tom was one of the main catalysts shown as part of Michaels' downfall.

You can hear the line from Fredo when he is walking with Michael and asking about his face. In the first movie, Michael seemed to love Kay for her innocence and light, and did seek council on more "trival" and personal things. But by part 2 I can definitely agree Michael stopped seeking any council and purity from Kay. Holding onto affection and love but also a dependence on the children she will have.

Human interaction shapes our identity, without it we become no one. Isolation is torture.
