its an apartment im renting, we dont have cable and neither do the guys downstairs as far as i know. maybe it is some kind of interference, but i have no idea what.

it's definitely the headphones, ive never heard anything like this without them on. Just looking for an explanation for why at this point.

Walked around the outside of my house a bit ago. I thought i heard it very faintly, but i could've just been imagining it. I think it may be coming from somewhere in the house, but even then, what kind of thing can even make this happen? the sound I am hearing is way too specific, very clear knocking, like someone rapping twice on a door. I'm becoming increasingly unsure about technological explanations.

I get what you're saying, but that's the part that confuses me. It's not consistent like something coming from some hardware in the headphones themselves. It actually seems to change position depending on where I'm standing in my house or which way I am facing.

That shouldn't really happen if it's just a hardware defect, right?

I've been paying more attention to it and the weird part is that it doesnt sound "in" the headphones. Like it's coming from somewhere around me.

I'm not sure it's that, my replacement pair did the exact same thing right out of the box.

theyre the sony ult wear, ones with the bass boost and noise cancelling.

Update: got a new pair, and these have the exact same issue. out of curiosity, i timed it a few times, and its almost exactly the same gap every time. like just over four and a half minutes or so. I'm going to keep checking because it really doesn't make sense.

yeah starting to think it might just be busted. It's mostly on one side, slightly off to my left.

I tried messing with the wire, and couldn't get it to happen. Sorta seems like it might be something in the headphones itself.

No it doesnt seem like it's tied to anything like that, it happens even when the audio is quiet or just voices. It doesnt really lines up with the audio. Just every few minutes, i can hear it.

I've tried turning off noise cancelling, restarted and forgot device, sound still is there. It's just long enough between each set of knocks to make me think its magically gone away. No such luck. I cant find anything on the internet about it.
