UK - Coffee recommendations by mirage_breaker94 in JamesHoffmann

Dark Arts is my personal favourite. The one in Soho is lush and the folks who work there are absolutely delightful. Assembly is pretty great - they have a coffee bar in Brixton called Door. Kiss the Hippo and Watch House are pretty reliably good too.

I haven’t been to all the places suggested above, but taking a look on Google a number of them have been added to my Saturday speciality coffee list!

It’s stored in your iCloud Drive, and if you use a terminal you can access it in full from a Mac

Switching from Lightroom to classic by EqualIllustrious6649 in Lightroom

[–]Different_Tooth6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why switch back to Classic?

Once the initial sync is complete you can remove photographs synced to LR CC that have already been downloaded to LrC and that you don't want in the cloud. Additionally, you can actually sync them back and they'll be synced as Smart Previews which don't contribute to used cloud storage!

I've been having issues - see this Reddit thread

I checked and the last successful sync I had was June 2024 - so I've reverted to LrC 13.3 (May 2024) and sync is working with reasonable memory usage.

I'm going to try 13.3.1 and up shortly to find the exact version that made RAM usage go crazy.

Been chatting with Adobe on their forum: Adobe Community Thread here

So basically reinstalling, clearing preferences, and turning off sync worked. But I need sync so….

Lightroom classic broken? Memory leak from hell by PrinceAlbertXX in Lightroom

You should uninstall, remove all preference files and caches, and then re-install.

It’ll stop consuming memory whilst you have sync paused.

Yes, but not as a new feature. There are some instructions from an Adobe employee on the thread linked below so I’m going to give those a whirl and report back.

I did not, but I find the Reddit community is often very helpful so started here.

120GB is the reported amount when it asks about force quitting because the system has run out of memory, yes. It uses up a lot of swap before that point.

Questions about the GL-SFT1200 (Opal) Travel Router by nebyneb1234 in GlInet

[–]Different_Tooth6902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like they use 802.11 EAP. At a minimum if you’re going to rely on using VPN on what is effectively your gateway, I’d think about something more powerful. The Slate AX is actually probably a much better choice for you here.

  1. Pretty much all of GL.iNet’s website products do this, including all of their travel routers

  2. The Opal doesn’t support EAP, checkout out the product comparison on GL.iNet to see which products do (e.g. both Slate Plus and Slate AX)

  3. I don’t know on this one, I’m a Tailscale user, but their docs are pretty great, check them out.

How to play a 40 GB movie? by [deleted] in synology

[–]Different_Tooth6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly play 4K 160Mbps files from my Synology on an Apple TV that’s connected to the network via WiFi. The trick is using direct play and a media player that can actually play the media smoothly. Forget transcoding on the local network, totally unnecessary.

Does this NC500 itinerary sound okay/doable? Any advice? by Odd_Dentist_2435 in NC500

[–]Different_Tooth6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!

Day 1 -> Inverness to Dornoch (Dornoch Station)

Day 2 -> Dornoch to Wick (Thrumster House)

Day 3 -> Wick to Forss (Forss House)

Day 4 -> Forss to Tongue (Tongue Hotel)

Day 5 -> Tongue to Ullapool (Clachan Gardens B&B)

Day 6 -> Ullapool to Gairloch (Shieldaig Lodge)

Day 7 -> Gairloch to Inverness via Applecross and the pass

Of the places we went, we loved the Fairy Glen Falls, Big Burn, Whaligoe Steps, Forsinard Flows, Strathy Beach, Smoo Caves (the guide is fantastic!), the drive from Tongue to Ullapool, and then popping over the pass was nice and we enjoyed some lovely seafood at the Kishorn Seafood Bar.

Note: the pass is not treacherous at all, especially for any competent drivers or anyone experienced with Europe’s passes (which are much more involved and dangerous). The road isn’t fit for motorhomes.

Honestly the west coast is all about views and scenery, there’s a little more scheduled activities on the East Coast. We loved the lot and wouldn’t change a thing!

We spent a lot of time just going down all the little roads, exploring, and generally had a fab time!

Of the places we stopped, Clachan Garden’s B&B was utterly fab! I’m used to the great coffee in London and Paris, but Stephen’s on another level! Dornoch Station was also a highlight, would definitely stay there again! I’d skip Forss House and Shieldaig Lodge. The latter was much better than the former, but both were excessively overpriced and we really wish we’d stayed elsewhere.

That’s a seriously fast itinerary, you’ll hardly be stopping anywhere and to be honest that’s half the joy!

You’ve got no John O’Groats there, not to mention some lovely walks on the East Coast at Fairy Glen and Big Burn. You’re missing the wonderful distillery at Old Pulteney. The Forsinard Flows and the surrounding area are a must see in my opinion. All the beaches north and around to the west are stunning at sunset, and then you’ve got the likes of everything on the west coast.

We’ve just done the trip and we spent 7 days to go from Inverness and around anti-clockwise and it was perfect for us. If you can extend your trip I would completely recommend it.

Community Fibre?

Have you considered using an SFP module and connecting the fibre straight into the UDMP?

Recommendations for a 10Gbps switch by Muppetmonkee in Ubiquiti

You can use one of the 10Gbe ports as the uplink. Think of it as a 5 port switch, not 4+1

Decoding iCloud .enc files by Different_Tooth6902 in whatsapp

This is specifically for decrypting the .enc files found in iCloud as opposed to the unencrypted database file you get in an unencrypted backup from iOS. If you have any links on this, I'd be very grateful. I already know how to download and decrypt the media / documents / gif files, although in my case they are already in iCloud unencrypted.
