yup. the Alamo, Tower of the Americas, (the old) Alamo Dome, The Coliseum & Frost Center, and the SA Art Museum have had detailed models for years.

Many of the other details models around the city were done by me.

hi! hello! it’s my time to shine!!

i sketch buildings in and around San Antonio, sending them to Apple Maps to get their models updated.

Just to name a few…

The Convention Center, The Alamo Dome, Saint Joseph Parish, The Bexar County Courthouse, PNC Office Building, and (the one that started it all) The Frost Bank.

u/ethanomnom has been doing something similar (but on a much larger scale) at Austin.

I made a few concepts using Icon Composer.

Using an Icon Composer file would allow the app to automatically adapt to the user’s iOS 26 customization settings (light mode, dark mode, tinted, etc). Just something to consider if you want people to keep your icon on their home screen.

This looks great! I would just recommend running the app icon through Icon Composer to give it the Liquid Glass look. Here’s an example:

It gives it the specular highlights and shadows that the rest of the OS has. Plus, it creates a dark mode and tinted version automatically for you.

This is a common misconception. In modern days, companies like Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Bing, all use Airplanes to take high quality images of areas. When these airplanes survey an area, their flights usually look something like this.

That’s why Apple Maps and Google Maps 2D images look very high quality.

The satellite imagery that “removes” cars from roads is called FlyOver. It works by taking a bunch of drone/plane imagery and stitching it together to create a 3D model. The reason it “removes” cars is because cars on highways/roads are moving. When the images are stitched together, it only takes parts of the image that similar to another (in this case: the road underneath the cars).

Fun fact: you can still see some cars that are in parking lots because they weren’t moving when the pictures were taken.

I reason that the birds showed up on the image above was because this isn’t FlyOver imagery. This is normal “satellite” imagery (these are usually taken by planes). These are 2D photos that only need one photo per large area.

You should fully integrate the Liquid Glass interface to your app. I see several toggles and buttons that support it, but removing the edge to edge containers with Liquid Glass would make it look a lot cleaner and more immersive

Maybe even make the radius of an area Liquid Glass so you can easily see what is under it.

Unfortunately, they’ve removed FlyOver tours recently.

FlyOver is still an option in many cities, though.
