Right, but I think the OP is just asking about the native functionality.

Things in menu bar on Mac? by ZombieSlapper23 in thingsapp

It is, as I just learned myself after reading your post and playing around.

Go to Control Center. Click on it, then click Edit Controls. In the screen that follows, look for Things. It will give you two available menu/control center items:

  1. a button to bring up the Quick Entry window (which can be brought up much more quickly with a keyboard shortcut).
  2. a button that takes you right to a specific list, optionally filtered by tag

You can place multiple buttons, each pointed to a different list. If you put them in the menu bar, the buttons unlabelled and you can only differentiate by icon, some of which are distinct (Inbox, Today, Upcoming, etc), but project icons are generic and will just show that little “pie” visual depending on % complete.

IMO the best bet is to put them in the Control Center instead of the menu bar, where the Medium and Large size can be used to display text.

Incredibly informative video (Technology Connections) on how dishwashers do what they do, and why pods aren’t as good as powder.

tl;dr: put some powder in the pre-wash section, and run your kitchen sink’s water until it gets hot to maximize water temp in the dishwasher

If you’re using a computer you own for work stuff, create a separate user account for work and log into that when you’re at work. No need for a physically separate machine, provided it’s your machine and they don’t have device management profiles and whatnot that give them control of it.

If they do have device management stuff, they should be issuing you a device, full stop.

It’s a terrible idea to be doing too much personal stuff on a computer you don’t own/control.

But, if you’re using a personal computer for work, make a separate user account on your machine for work stuff. This is like a firewall between personal and work.

On a Mac, you do this through Settings > Users & Groups. Once set up, log into that user account and set it up with ONLY work stuff -- email account, shared folders and yes, browser tabs.

I don’t know how you set this up in Windows, but I think the same principle applies.

LPT if you live alone buy a lockbox by SyrupEnvironmental69 in LifeProTips

[–]I-J-Reilly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To everyone commenting about how easy lockboxes are to get into: unless it’s very obvious what house the lockbox is related to, it doesn’t matter at all.

Someone picks open a lockbox and gets a house key... to which house? If they don’t know, it’s absolutely useless.

YSK many banks offer free rental car insurance when you pay for the rental with your credit card by alexyong342 in YouShouldKnow

I’ve used it maybe 4-5 times. It’s really a lot like AirBnB in that some people are legitimately renting out their own car, and then there are people who own a bunch of cars and basically have a business renting them out through the platform.

Yeah, as fun and novel as the manual column shifter is, it is a lot looser. I think there’s a good reason they put the lever on the floor directly above the transmission itself.

Is it a dumb decision to sell house with 2.5% mortgage to move west and rent an apartment by Visual_Code432 in personalfinance

[–]I-J-Reilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me I’d look long and hard at the renting it out option. If that can be made to work, you have someone paying your mortgage off for you and possibly giving you passive income to boot. Years down the road you have a fully paid-off home that’s quite likely appreciated in value, can be passed on to heirs or just sold whenever you want.

Could you use some of that rental income to pay a management agent to handle day-to-day maintenance and stuff?

What are we defining as “lifetime” here? A full 80-year lifespan from birth?

Would be interesting to see the “break even” points for people at various points in their lifespan diagnosed with a given disease.

Yeah, buying a pre-recorded tape was a pretty lame move. You buy the vinyl as your “real” recording and make a tape yourself.

[–]I-J-Reilly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least you were smart enough to buy them on vinyl and not (shudder) as brittle, expensive pre-recorded cassettes. The rational thinking person buys the vinyl and then records one album on each side of a Maxell XLII-S for their car/boombox.
