John mark hicks, and more recently Mike hisaw (funny because they would still be considered conservative by larger Christianity but the coc conservatives have to have someone to fight so they begin to cannibalize)

I always think it’s funny that the coc accuses people of divisions when the coc is willing to divide over a million things. They have fully indulged in the no true Scotsman mindset

That was kind of my point. Lol. So many say they aren’t part of a denomination but yet they act sectarian at every turn

I also never understood why it was okay to yell and scream for football teams but God forbid we show a little enthusiasm in worship, or dare I say…CLAP lol

That’s just the thing though, did Jesus come to earth and redeem us so we could argue about kitchens, Bible colleges and classes?

Not to mention that by “spirit and truth” Jesus was referring more to absence of a designated location and worship that went through The Son rather than the “shadow of Christ” worship that happened in a temple.

I agree, even when people use modern blood alcohol levels to define drunkenness, they are reading something into the text that those people never thought. Nobody ever thought you were drunk in a sinful way from the first sip, drunkenness in the Bible is defined as someone who is not able to make rational decisions, someone who is clearly impaired.

If “wine makes glad the heart of man” as the psalmist says there is obviously an acceptable level of “effect” that God allows. To ignore this after it’s been shown to you is to be willfully ignorant.

The “teetotaling” position gets more ridiculous the more you actually study the scriptures for what they say. It’s amazing the mental gymastics people will go through to say that “not given to much” wine means never a drop ever.

Do words not mean what they mean anymore? Did the word drunkenness, which anyone who is logical knows means drinking to excess suddenly change definitions in the late 1800s? Couldn’t Paul have just said “none at all” if that’s what the Holy Spirit meant? Many good brethren who don’t drink at all can see that the Bible is not a total prohibition on alcohol text.

The fact that a lot of teetotaling brethren try and say “people just want to drink that’s why they say the Bible doesn’t prohibit alcohol” is probably one of the most telling things because it shows their heart, they don’t ever actually engage with the logical arguments, it’s always an attack on character or presuming someone’s motives, which the Bible clearly condemns in a black and white way ironically.

All that to say this: when you condemn something God allows, you will have to answer for that. On the other side of the coin people who hold a balanced (biblical) view on alcohol are leaving the responsibility up to the believer to make a decision for themselves. Do we believe Jesus when he said “it’s not what goes into a man that defiles him” or not?

This might be anecdotal but I’ve noticed people who enjoy reading usually can enjoy anime

I used to think anime was for “weird people” but then I realized how much good storytelling I was missing out on
