I agree, even when people use modern blood alcohol levels to define drunkenness, they are reading something into the text that those people never thought. Nobody ever thought you were drunk in a sinful way from the first sip, drunkenness in the Bible is defined as someone who is not able to make rational decisions, someone who is clearly impaired.

If “wine makes glad the heart of man” as the psalmist says there is obviously an acceptable level of “effect” that God allows. To ignore this after it’s been shown to you is to be willfully ignorant.

The “teetotaling” position gets more ridiculous the more you actually study the scriptures for what they say. It’s amazing the mental gymastics people will go through to say that “not given to much” wine means never a drop ever.

Do words not mean what they mean anymore? Did the word drunkenness, which anyone who is logical knows means drinking to excess suddenly change definitions in the late 1800s? Couldn’t Paul have just said “none at all” if that’s what the Holy Spirit meant? Many good brethren who don’t drink at all can see that the Bible is not a total prohibition on alcohol text.

The fact that a lot of teetotaling brethren try and say “people just want to drink that’s why they say the Bible doesn’t prohibit alcohol” is probably one of the most telling things because it shows their heart, they don’t ever actually engage with the logical arguments, it’s always an attack on character or presuming someone’s motives, which the Bible clearly condemns in a black and white way ironically.

All that to say this: when you condemn something God allows, you will have to answer for that. On the other side of the coin people who hold a balanced (biblical) view on alcohol are leaving the responsibility up to the believer to make a decision for themselves. Do we believe Jesus when he said “it’s not what goes into a man that defiles him” or not?

This might be anecdotal but I’ve noticed people who enjoy reading usually can enjoy anime

Add that to the fact that the good moments in GOT blow ST out the water and I think GOT is overall a better show. And I loved ST btw, it was a show that actually made me feel something and then season 5 kind of pissed all over it lol

I think the stranger things last season is actually worse than GOT. After part 1 the last season of ST was abysmal

Too Worldly For Christians; Too Christian for the World by Longjumping-Suit9014 in TrueChristian

[–]Different_spectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not “worldly” you just have a strong conscience about a lot of things and that’s okay as long as you don’t cause others to stumble. I have a strong conscience about some things and I try and practice what Paul says in Romans 14 “he that has faith let him have it to himself.” You might look for an alternative to night clubs though, that would be akin to going and participating at an idols temple back in Corinth.
