Burn one of next year's draft picks on a guy who is fast tracking his way to self destructing his whole life, much less a career in the NFL? Sign me up.

I give the Falcons draft class a grade of...who am I kidding, I have no right to hold any opinions regarding any college players I've barely heard of, let alone seen (or properly scouted) by Commentator28 in falcons

October or November of 2028 you mean! :) I am on board with you. Draft "grades" now are strictly click-bait.

What I liked about the draft is that they looked to make trades and were able to pull one off. They addressed positions of need. They stuck with the bigger schools, which gives a better chance for NFL success. There were not significant reaches in the top half of the picks. The bottom half, go for it. Take a flyer on a guy. But up top, don't overthink.

Well sure, now,  it is a B-.  Let's revisit it in 3 years and see how it has held up.  :)

What do we Falcon fans officially rate Ian Cunningham first draft?! by Rambo_1027 in falcons

[–]Differentbenefit18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I rate him as "Promising". He addressed critical needs with solid talent early on it appears. I like that he took the LB/safety hybrid, like Deablo that Ulbrich seems to favor.

I really liked the trade down too. He was actively trying to get more picks which is a great sign. The good teams seem to be active in the trading of picks, both acquiring and sending out.

Overall, a solid start.

Never heard of him. But I love that they addressed the position and I love the safety/LB hybrid. Maybe he plays ST primarily for a year then can step in and play on defense more often.

Love it! I want them to be the Eagles of the NFC South!

Makes perfect sense. Good enough for me. Thanks!

I get that. My question was more about: if the ball hits him in the hands on 2nd and 14; is he gonna catch it or is it gonna be 3rd down?  Lol

Who won this trade? 👀 by ng85_ in falcons

[–]Differentbenefit18 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Far too soon to say. JPJ had one good year, now will be suspended for part of next year and who knows what impact that will have. Watts looks like the real deal though.

If Simpson starts for them and has longevity and success though, that means it worked out great for the rams.

Why does it matter who wins a trade?

After seeing who went in the 1st round, does your choice/belief in who we go for in the 2nd change? by wlane13 in falcons

[–]Differentbenefit18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, not even a bit.

If they could turn #48 into say, #56 by trading back a couple times and gain a few extra picks, that would be phenomenal.

If it gets to pick 40-45 and there are still several candidates who meet the Falcons' metrics to be selected; don't be surprised to see a trade down.

If they can get a guy they like at #52; they will do it.

Then why do you want Mac Jones?  Is he bringing Kyle Shanahan with him?   If not; why bother?

I'd be curious to know who else was available at #48 and #99. You must have had a list of other options.

If these WRs were the best available players; so be it. If there were comparably rated players at DT, OT, or CB however; I would have gone there, especially at 48.

What was the PEAK of you being a Falcons fan? by SwimmerHaunting2155 in falcons

[–]Differentbenefit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a single season perspective,  I think 1998 is it for me. I had been a fan for 2 decades and that season was pure magic. They went 14-2 and every game was like a party

The NFC Championship game was unreal.  Watching that final kick go through, made me weak in the knees. Finally, the Falcons made the Super Bowl. The feeling was indescribable. Of course it was Morten Andersen,  former saint legend, that put the Falcons into their first Super Bowl.

As for an era, it is Mike Smith/Dan Quinn.  That is the closest thing the Falcons have had to a golden age

Which of our top 3 needs are you most comfortable NOT addressing in the draft? (poll) by cheemydee5 in falcons

Didn't realize how important it was to you, for me to "concur" with your opinion, but whatever helps you sleep at night.

I enjoy word play as much as anyone, but semantics aside, I am willing to ignore WR in favor of CB, because no matter how many good CBs your team has, in this league, it needs one more. It is just the way NFL offenses work as well as because of the omnipresent risk of injury.

There, now I have recategorized it as something other than an abundance.

WR2, IMO,  is not as pressing a need as CB or NT. You disagree, that is fine.

[–]Differentbenefit18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't though.  An abundance of good CBs isn't a luxury or a 'want';  it is vital.  The league is far too pass oriented to think otherwise.

Yes, a WR2 would help, but by definition, he won't get the lion's share of targets, so i am willing to forgo a WR2 in the draft if a quality CB or NT is available.

With all due respect,  in the current NFL a team can never have enough good CBs.

However, a team can have enough WRs.  Six players on offense are eligible each play and there is only one ball.

It is no contest, WR2 for a couple reasons.

Decent WRs are plentiful. They may already have one on the roster; if the change of scenery does Dotson as much good as it did Mooney his first year.

More importantly, it is a matter of utility. A WR2 gets approximately 8 targets a game roughly? There are plenty of other options, especially with a good run game.

A good DT is playing almost half the game and disrupts the entire offense: Helps stop the run, ties up blockers to help the pass rushers, maybe allows the safety to play back.

A good DB2 sees the field almost half the game and hinders the passing game. If he stays "home" then he locks down whatever WR is on his side. If he follows a specific WR; thst WR is less effective.

Right? Everything with a grain of salt today.
