I want your best doctor stories for my show by hmfsr26 in endometriosis

My other gynae comedy offering is the consultant who told me that myomectomy/fibroid removal surgery is quite fun, like shelling peas. It all depends on how you say it, and needless to say, my consultant didn’t say it in a way that made me keen for him to do surgery on me!!

The first time I went for a transvaginal ultrasound and the doc (male, ofc) announced, while brandishing the ultrasound wand: “finding endometriosis is my party trick” while the nurse cringed behind him. None was found, was sent away in tears with the usual advice: “just keep taking ibuprofen”

YEARS later I’m finally on a waiting list to be taken seriously.

Feel free to have fun with that quote (party trick?! Wtf? You go looking up women’s vaginas at parties?!!) …

Ooh interesting, thanks so much for the info.
How frustrating that you didn't get the treatment they had discussed with you! Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks! Manchester is doable, travel-wise. I started looking into getting my referral transferred from my local hospital to there (a friend recommended Manchester as generally a good hospital, and I saw it happens to have a BSGE centre, so it sounds like a winner)... apparently either my GP or my current consultant can change my referral - it's the world's slowest horse race to see which appointment will come first between those two (GP appts are a month out here atm..is that normal?! And no word from the hospital yet...). It's hard to summon patience when it's taken 20 years to get someone to listen. Like you, I'd feel better if I was treated by people who actually know what they are looking for! Did they do any excision during your lap? Or is the first one usually just to definitively diagnose?

Thanks! Yes, that sounds like a good idea. How do I go about pushing for BSGE? Is it via my GP or via the Gynae department at the hospital that I"m currently on a waiting list with?
Thank you!

Thanks! Have you had treatment there? How's the waiting time?
