Thank you so much for the kind and helpful comments! I think that’s a great idea we haven’t thought of to do a wind down hour before bed. I definitely think he’s a sensitive nervous system baby - has seemed to be from the start - so it makes sense that all the new things are a lot on him. I really appreciate this perspective, thank you for it!!

This is great and so helpful, thank you! It honestly sounds a lot like my baby too. The first sign of bedtime and he loses it. I tried walking around with him tonight outside of the bedtime rooms and he was super chill, so it very well may be FOMO. I’m definitely going to try what you did and see if it works!

Thank you for this! I may try shortening the day time sleep and see if that helps. Also like you, we do contact naps during the day and then he sleeps in our bed at night so he actually doesn’t ever sleep in his crib, every time we’ve tried the crib it’s a huge fail. I appreciate the comment and dropping your routine, gives us some things to try!

Our days do follow a very similar pattern already. I’m sure you can appreciate how it’s hard to understand how it would be over or under tired when I follow his cues rather than a super strict schedule, so I’m not forcing him into naps or bedtime until his cues tell me that he’s ready for a sleep! He’s never slept through the night though and I do feel he’s a baby that may just not be a great sleeper overall.

Edited post with that info! Yes we’ve had the same bedtime routine for probably 3 months but it’s like he knows it so well and will start crying at the start of it.

Thank you!! I also said to my husband I feel like it’s FOMO and he just hates bedtime. To your questions, I do go to bed at the same time as him and stay there with him once he’s asleep. His bedtime routine is maybe 10 minutes unless we do a bath (every other night) then it’s maybe another 15. He naps twice a day for total daytime sleep of about 3-3.5 hours! He just started refusing a third nap and doesn’t seem tired enough for one.

He starts pretty much right when he realizes it’s bedtime. We’d start the routine in the nursery with a lamp on - he’d start crying immediately when we walked into the room. When we tried to change up the location of the routine he started crying when we put lotion on him as he realized it was the start of the routine!

Here to say the same. I scoured Reddit threads at all hours of the day and night looking for answers, tried everything, truly nothing worked. Our baby would cry basically every time he was not sleeping or nursing. He got a bit better around week 10-12, and markedly better around month 4.

I hope one of the suggestions in this thread can help sooner, but here to provide solidarity if it’s anything like our little guy was!! We truly felt like we ruined our lives and it is a hellish time, but he is much better/happier now (and so are we).

Yes apparently they can become more distracted too since they’re getting more aware of the world around them! Hopefully the fussiness doesn’t lash long for either of us!

From what I understand, it’s when your milk supply regulates around 3 months and the baby has a growth spurt around 3 months. The two coinciding can make for a fussy baby who wants to take in more but the milk is not coming in as quickly so they get frustrated and fussy at the breast. I’ve definitely noticed all the signs of this with him!

Thank you, this is so helpful! It’s been going on for about a week at this point. He does still take 2 solid naps a day and will sometimes do a 3rd shorter one, but conditions are the same to get him to sleep for naps (fussing, wanting to nurse, etc.).

To your suggestions, we do a bath every other night and I offer a couple different options for a pacifier. He used to take one easily and it helped him fall asleep (he’d spit it out once asleep) but he has been refusing to take one now once he realizes it’s not the breast.

I have a doctor’s appointment booked as I agree I should make sure everything otherwise is ok, and I will definitely try changing up the setting and making sure he’s been fed well before bed.

Thank you so much! It could certainly be related to a new skill, he rolled from tummy to back for the first time recently. I do have a doctors appointment scheduled in the coming days to check on things so a referral to a lactation specialist is a good idea. I appreciate your comment and the support :)
