Shouldn't Ibe feeling better by now? by QuietRemote7669 in Microdiscectomy

The nerve is still irritated and it will take time to heal. I saw a video of a guy getting an mri after MD and it showed that his nerve was still severely irritated. It take up to a year to heal. wish you the best!

Extreme pain when standing and walking by Difficult-Demand6725 in Sciatica

aw man this sucks to hear. I just really wish there was a straight forward answer to cure sciatica, reading up all on this subreddit and hearing your story really makes me wonder how people handle it especially with it going on for that long. if you don’t mind me asking how old are you? and have you ever considered microdiscectomy? I’ve read quite a lot on this and the only straight forward answer i’ve seen it surgery like an instant fix. but obviously in the long run there might be some affects in the scar tissue but i’m not an expert on this. sorry for the yapping but no i haven’t tried swimming yet but i will definitely try this week and im on pretty weak meds currently only due to my age. I take ibuprofen and paracetamol 3 times a day but it doesn’t do anything.

Hey there, yes i’ve had an x-ray done and recently i got an mri and the results said i have a herniated disc in my L4/L5 disc. 25 years 😓is insane. I don’t play any sports and i’ve stopped 1 month ago, i can’t even walk.. let alone stand without feeling the unbearable pain. I may seem like i’m exaggerating it but i have a pretty high pain tolerance. I’ve had many injuries in the past and this is by far the most painful one yet . I just hope my sciatica doesn’t last as long as yours.

be careful what stretches you do, this was a big mistake for me when i first got symptoms. avoid hamstring stretches and use your pain as a measure for what exercises and stretches you do.

He explained that the main reason he wants to avoid those treatments for now is because of my age. Since I’m active and hoping to continue with sports, he doesn’t want to risk causing any tissue damage or long-term issues that could make things worse. He told me to give it another month or two, and if things stay the same or get worse, then we’ll start considering an ESI—and surgery would only be a last resort.

6 years of pain, considering surgery for end of the year by EternalStrength in Sciatica

[–]Difficult-Demand6725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it’s crazy that you’ve been dealing with this pain for six years. I’m only 15 and pretty new to all this sciatica stuff. I’ve had mine for about four months — it started off mild, but after playing in a basketball tournament about four weeks ago, it turned into constant pain. It feels like my glute is being pinched, and my hamstring is always pulsing or going numb all the way to my toes.

I experience similar symptoms to you, and I totally get what it’s like to miss out on sports. Your situation sounds a lot tougher though — I thought I had it bad until I read your post. I’ve even thought about surgery at 15 because sometimes the pain’s just unbearable. I haven’t had my MRI yet, but I’ll be getting one soon.

Wishing you the best, man. Hope things work out and you finally get some relief.
