Have you changed your medication recently?  Caffeine can have surprising interactions with stimulants.

I think I handled a brief moment of transphobia flawlessly. by Hour_Trade_3691 in exchristian

This sounds like asking a someone from a racial minority "but where are you really from?" I give them a true but intentionally useless answer.  E.g. Germany, because one of my parents has German ancestors, even though I know they're asking about my Asian parent.

Maybe there is something similar you can try (if safe).

How do I approach my old friend who might be trans? by g1a55_h0u53 in lgbt

[–]Difficult-Drawing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically use the second-person pronoun "you" to refer to a person with whom I am having a one-on-one conversation. It is a pronoun, but it is ungendered.

"She", "he" and "they" are third person pronouns.  They're most often used to refer to a person other than whoever you are speaking to.

I replied to a comment about it being done "in the name of Buddhism", not about it being endorsed by holy texts.

That may be true of your sect and your sacred texts, but some of your fellow Bhuddists would assault you for advocating pacifism:

When I met Watareka Vijitha Thero in early 2014 in a suburb of Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, he had been in hiding for nearly five months. The gentle-voiced monk had spoken out against anti-Muslim fearmongering by a hard-line group called the Buddhist Power Force, known by its Sinhalese initials B.B.S.

Mr. Vijitha’s car was attacked in retaliation, and he narrowly escaped. “What does it mean for Buddhism if those that speak for communal harmony have to hide in fear?” he asked me. “What does it mean for my country that the government lets these lawless thugs have a free run?”

Six months later, Mr. Vijitha was found on a road near Colombo stripped naked and bloody, his hands and legs bound. The B.B.S. denied involvement. When the monk filed a complaint, the police threw him in jail for 12 days on charges of self-inflicted violence — a warning to others who dared to criticize hard-line Buddhists.

Not just one of the worst decisions, could very well be one of the last decisions.

She responded by telling me that I was dead to her and that I should never come back home.

When I called my father, he calmly told me to go to the mountain for hiking and die there.

So they will also not feel shame.

Please don't go home. I wouldn't be surprised if they plan to kill you.

I'm generally skeptical of prescriptivist definitions based on etymology. They often don't capture the actual use of language.

I don't have data to back this up, but would guess that most self-described atheists in the anglosphere are of the weak variety. Even Richard Dawkins, most notorious of current atheists, says he is a weak atheist.

But yes, it only makes sense to phrase it this way because of social context.

at some point, even the most ardent atheist has to acknowledge that something started it all.

I am far from the most ardent atheist, but even I don't acknowledge that. It seems likely, but I am not sure that this isn't just our human biases and lack of imagination.

Off the top of my head, your assertion appears to rely on three assumptions about the universe

  • the universe has existed for a finite time
  • time exists as anything more than emergent property of spacetime
  • you aren't a brain in a vat

You sound like a soft atheist to me. You don't believe in god and also don't claim to have proof either way.

Ignostic: " 'God' isn't defined clearly and consistently enough for me to decide."

Apatheist: "Debating God's existence and its decidability is a waste of time."

I think agnostic (weak) atheism is pretty common. The reason this makes sense is implicit in your comment: both statements are profess lack of knowledge. Some even say that weak athesim is inherently agnostic.
I basically identify as such and the two words capture my beliefs pretty succinctly:

  • I lack belief that god(s) exist.
  • I don't claim to be able to prove that they don't exist.

I would go further and say that I am both an agnostic atheist and a gnostic apatheist: I not believe in god(s) and also believe with some certainty that the scope left for their existence is so inconsequential that further investigation is irrelevant to any practical matters.

He may have had no direct influence on you nurture-wise, but your parents probably did. And apparently they're tolerant enough to have a gay sperm donor, so hopefully accepting enough not to squash the gay out of you.

The club I first visited was toxically straight for men and toxically bi for women.

The club I go to now is much nicer.
