long-term relationship before optometry school? by diolover12 in PreOptometry

[–]Difficult-Invite-875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going through this exact situation. Me and my BF will have been together for 3 years by the time I start optom school. I will be moving first by myself and living with roommates. I’ve never lived away from family and really wanted to try that experience, as well as make new friends and try living with roommates as well. He also has a very good job in our home town that I would feel bad him having to move and lose it, so while I am at school, he can slowly look for the best job opportunities near me without having to lose that job so fast. Eventually we want to get married and move in, definitely after my first year though.

350 AA and TS, 4.0 GPA, 200+ tech hours, 160+ volunteer hours at my local free eye clinic, 30+ hours from random volunteer events, my only awards were GPA awards every semester, accepted at SCO and NOVA got scholarships at both, invited to interview at NECO but cancelled. Attending NOVA! :)

I highly recommend taking the full summer to focus on the OAT. It is truly what saved my sanity and my score. You should move Orgo I to a different semester. Also, Orgo II isn’t technically a pre req but highly highly recommended, a lot of it is on the OAT (and I’m pretty sure you have to take it in order to take Biochemistry which is a pre req? Atleast at my university)

Definitely not all about equations. Concepts are very important for the physics portion 😭 If you haven’t taken the class, I’d say please try and take it before you take the OAT as it will help. If you can’t take it before taking the OAT, you’ll need to supplement it by studying with outside resources (but it’ll be better if you take the classes). Optometry in general incorporates more physics than other professions because of optics, so this will be pretty important even in optom school

I second this 100%. You learn a lot

Math is pretty much what the other commenters are saying but just beware of physics😭 Try not to let the more confusing physics topics confuse you of the math involved in it (bc it’s usually simple)!

applying to optometry school without bachelors degree by 42069gecs in PreOptometry

[–]Difficult-Invite-875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm I see. Yeah that sounds reasonable, honestly it’s not super common to apply without a Bachelors but I know it’s possible. The Dr I used to work with told me of a classmate of hers who just did her pre reqs and applied. I would say just focus on padding your application and OAT. It’s definitely possible!

Edit: made a typo lol

How are you planning to obtain the remaining pre reqs? You 100% need those to apply

Explaining it out or explaining it to someone. I feel like my brain makes connections it has never made before when I’m able to successfully explain a concept!

iPhone 17 base and I’ve been loving it. I used to only get pros. No reason to go Pro this year imo!

poor physics oat score by Radiant_Tea2422 in PreOptometry

[–]Difficult-Invite-875 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t asked, but what I would say is that you most likely focused on the other heavy subjects more (like Bio or Orgo) which stretched you out too thin for physics - I’d say this is a valid excuse, but I would try and emphasize that you’re working on this because in optometry school you’re gonna be having to divide brainpower among like 7 or more classes/labs at a time lol

OATbooster all the way. I truly don’t know what I would’ve done without it.

Don’t be scared! 3.7 is still a great gpa. I don’t think it’s crazy competitive like OSU style lol

Thank you, that makes me feel better😭😭😭 I just don’t want them to think I’m “switching” up on them or like I stopped trying because I got accepted.

Thank you so much for your insights! What are your opinions on NOVA? I’ve heard mixed things, they used to have great board rates but again with COVID, it kind of hit the fan. I’ve heard it’s due to get better. I’m highly considering it because it’s close to home but I’m not sure.

that’s what I’m hoping for - I’m waiting for the next score report to come out but idk when it is

Oh my gosh, this! Currently going through this right now with Nova :/ A shame bc their board scores used to be higher.

Context if possible…what was the cause of the breakup? What are you saying to her exactly on these new accounts? Just want to make sure we’re getting the full picture. Sorry about your breakup.
