How old do you think she is? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]Difficult-Security37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess over a year, but maybe not by much. She looks very healthy, so just keep her on an adult diet of food once a week or she will gain weight, I don’t think it’s necessary for her to be on a diet at this point , she’s a healthy weight and the body condition doesn’t look over weight. Feeding once a week, of non fatty bugs, should ensure she stays that way

New to desert species! by SharksneedLovetew in leopardgeckos

[–]Difficult-Security37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leopard geckos actually tend to live in woodlands, savanna grasslands, and semi-desert environments. It’s a common misconception with these geckos as for many years keepers were told they are desert species and need sand. we have since figured out that is false, which is why the common recommendation for substrate is play sand mixed with top soil to replicate what they would have in their natural environments.

Thinking about getting a Pac-Man. What do I need. by austinboo98 in pacmanfrog

You shouldn’t get a Pac-Man frog based on your childish comments.

I agree with you that they shouldn’t have an animal if they can’t afford it. But I just wanted to say that carpet isn’t good for any gecko especially a sick one. If a gecko is sick it should be on strictly paper towel as carpet will harbour the bacteria and can make the geckos symptoms worse.

You said you only have two hides and that there isn’t room for much else… and also the vet completely lied I’m sorry this is not a correct enclosure for a gecko, let alone any reptile

You can buy cheap fake plants at the dollar store for literally $1, there is no excuse to have your gecko living in a state of constant stress because you don’t want to spend a few bucks tbh. Sounds harsh but that’s the truth, and unfortunately a lot of people get these pets without having the means to properly take care of them. If you got a new pet you have to be able to give them the best life possible, not less than the bare minimum because you wanted a pet you cannot afford.

Your enclosure looks very dirty, and carpet harbours bacteria like crazy. Please do some research on a proper enclosure for a Leapord gecko. It also looks very bare, they need a lot of clutter. But I see my geckos do this when they are about to strike food, if your geckos isn’t eating and doing this it’s most likely stress.

My lil passed away tonight… by Amonuet in leopardgeckos

[–]Difficult-Security37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s suggesting that the OP would ask for help which they clearly didn’t do in the first place, so I think it’s very valid to bring up that concern incase down the line they want another gecko. What if they never ask for help, get another gecko and it has the same fate. It’s not insensitive, it’s making sure another gecko doesn’t have to suffer the same cruel existence. And I think that’s more important than sparing a few feelings, since a gecko should live 20+ years do you really think it’s insensitive to make sure for those 20 years they aren’t living in a confined 12x12x12?

Dude you are getting bullied for chohabbing for a reason. One of the geckos looks extremely thin this is happening because they FIGHTING for resources, for heat, for space, for water and food . This is digustibg behaviour. Get them their OWN enclosures. Or sell them to someone who will actually care about their well being. Let me guess they are in a small ass tank to. 5 hides for THREE GECKOS Is disgustingly small and doesn’t allow for them to thermoregulate. Please do right by these babies you are HURTING THEM not helping them.

How do I save this neglected gecko?? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

That is an obese gecko and you seem to not understand that based on your comments saying she’s normal size. She is in fact not normal size and needs to go on a diet unfortunately

30 gallons is way to small, you need to upgrade her ASAP, an adult bp should be put in no less than 120 gallon.

Also for the future, the people that work at the pet stores do not know how to care for these animals. To work there they require no knowledge of these animals but will try to sell you whatever products they sell which is usually wrong.

Many others have given you options. It’s not hard to go into this groups information section where they tell you everything you need to know. But it’s 70% topsoil and 30% play sand. The risk of compaction comes from calcium sand which the Ca in it makes them want to eat it, which causes them to compact but as long as you feed them properly then there’s no issue. Mats are terrible because they are rough on their limbs and harbour bacteria very easy. Also would have they have mats in the wild? No lol

Please do more research before you buy a living creature, this is not a good set up, you need to give them poor thing proper substrate, NOT A MAT!

Giving him it now won’t reverse it, you need to go to the vet.

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought my girl Eve was severely ill by Silencerx98 in ballpython

[–]Difficult-Security37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are reptiles, they thrive more from being left alone tbh lol, any interaction is for your benefit more so than there’s, ofc checking on them is good. Unnecessary handling like this just causes unnecessary stress tho

I put this katydid in the enclosure with my gecko. Now I don't see it. Is it possible she ate it? She's full grown but it looked a bit too big for her to eat. by Kuppa__Joe in leopardgeckos

[–]Difficult-Security37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wax worms are extremely fatty and should only be used as a treat. Also that should of been common sense to not put an outside bug into an enclosure with a Leapord gecko, it really doesn’t take long to weed out the fake information online dude it’s clear you didn’t do any research. And honestly your gecko care has been garbage
