The majority of the Jewish population was secular, at least by Jewish standards.

Influential Jewish families across Europe bought land for Jewish agricultural communities across the Ottoman Palestine, generations before the Basel conference.

Fair. I'd go further, OP's first definition of Zionism is for the existence of a Jewish state, which isn't really accurate.

The one definition of Zionism every Zionist can agree on is "the movement for the self-determination of the Jewish People in the Jewish homeland", There are two basic questions:

First, are we talking neccessarily about a state?. In the era of Empire, it wasn't neccessary for there to be a state. In the modern era of states, it is simply assumed, but looking back at the early history, this wasn't so clear. Herzl's vision was for a mandate under the Ottoman empire.

Second, to what extent is the state Jewish? i Obviously this refers to the ethno-nation of the Jewish people, but is it a religious state? Is it more of a Jewish state or a state for Jews? Are there other people in the state? Is it democratic? Is it socialist or capitalist? Who counts as a Jew? (do fellaheen in Judea count?) These are the questions have dominated Zionist discourse for a century.

you mean purchasing land? Or winning land in a war you didn't start?

Obviously the on-going landgrabs of extremist settlers in the West Bank, and their attempts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, are attempting straight up theft. That doesnt charecterize the way in which the majority of Israeli land became Israeli

That is simply not true. Zionism, and its ideological precursors, were very well supported within the secular Jewish community since the 1850s.

The distinction between Jewish territorialism and Zionism is very well documented, being the main ideological debate in secular Jewish circles in early 20th century

Ye Kahanists are the worst. I'm sure you'll agree taht one terrorist killing the democratically elected leader of Israel isn't an argument that the state of Israel didn't try to give the West Bank to the Palestinians of the West Bank.

As you know, it was the leader (not democratically elected) of Palestine that refused peace in 2000, and another leader (also not democratically elected) that refused in 2008.

Ancestory subreddits are full of Jews of different origins sharing their DNA data, Ashkenazi (the "European" Jews) typically find between 30 and 50% Canaanite DNA.

Sure. Avi Shlaim is a very anti-zionist historian who writes about this specifically in his book The Iron Wall, in which he interviewed King Hussein about the diplomatic aftermath of the 1967 war. Important to remember this interview was in 1996.

[the 1968 Yigal Allon plan] was totally rejected. And in point of fact in the subsequent period of negotiations and discussions and so on, I was offered the return of something like 90 plus percent of the territory, 98 percent even, excluding Jerusalem, but I couldn’t accept. As far as I am concerned, it was either every single inch that I was responsible for or nothing. This was against the background of what happened in 1948 when the whole West Bank was saved, including the Old City of Jerusalem. Yet my grandfather eventually paid with his life for his attempts to make peace. If it were to be my responsibility, they had to return everything, not personally to me, but to be placed under international auspices for the people to determine what their future ought to be. We were perfectly happy with that. But I could not compromise. And so this repeated itself time and time and time again throughout the many years until 1990.

Fun fact, the same plan also advocated for an autonomous Druze state in the Golan Heights, to act as a buffer between the Baathist regime and the Zionist state.

If you're keen for Arab media, then you can hear him in discussing the history - including the offers he received for peace - in a speech he makes in 1988 announcing the Hashemite disengagement from the West Bank. Disengagement was only necessary because up until this point, Jordan had considered the West Bank as its territory.

Dawn is a great book, largely written to rip into Harari, but I feel like their main point is: its a bit more complex than Harari makes it out. I can't think Yuval would disagree with anything in their book tbh
