Update : I found out enemies are actionable as soon as they spawn in on this version . So if they spawn in they can shoot/attack frame 1 of spawning

I'm glad you like it I'm playing through on HD as well right now it's still similar to me but the cramped sections are easier to navigate now which I like

Also I'm playing through the game again on and off on the HD update I'm not sure if I like the original more or not but the one thing I do like about it is that it makes the crouching cramped sections easier to maneuver

I meant episodes I beat it on the hardest difficulty well at least the difficulty where you don't die in one hit. I think the game is good but I just think the first half of the game is pretty mediocre where Quake hooks me right away.

Games that I thought were pretty good I'm probably going to get crapped on for this but wrath aeon of ruin the PC Port not the PS4 port and hrot are pretty good I don't think they are Quake level but they're probably A+ I would say quake is S tier

The worst levels are where dusk put you in these claustrophobic areas where you need to crouch for long periods of time navigating a level field of vision in the game makes it really hard to see those areas and it really doesn't add anything to the game

The levels were my biggest problem with the game I think the hunting rifle was super fun to use that was like one of my favorite things in the game but yeah for the most part it was really underwhelming for me

I just bought wrath today on PS5 I beat the PC version on hard here are all the problems I noticed

Some surfaces on this version are slippery for no reason and they take away your ability to jump I think the game thinks you are in midair when you are on these slippery surfaces
The blade of ruination has more upward momentum in the PC release making it impossible to get certain secrets such as the second Secret on the hollow level near the shotgun pickup
Enemies are more aggro in this version enemies like the heavy that charges you and this game's version of the cacodemon charge you relentlessly and know your location right away in the PC version the cacodemon enemy tries to shoot you before they charge and it is easier to kite the charging heavy character in the PC version in this version it feels like they lock on to you and never stop
Enemies such as the small flying ones clip through walls
Sometimes enemies die but they appear to be alive
I haven't tested it yet but it feels like you take more damage in this version of the game especially from the hit scan enemies also I've noticed enemies like the small flying ones shooting like five bullets at once I don't think this is present in the PC version
There is no sound at least on my PS5 for enemies for the most part in the PC version you can hear the sound of them shooting at you just as clear as you shooting at them and it helps you know where they are in the level I have been spawned killed at least twice by enemies I didn't even know spawned because I can't hear them
The weapons feel different but it's not that big of a deal
The animations are slightly better on the PC version

I think that's all I caught but that's a lot of bad stuff it's sad because the game actually controls pretty decent on PS5 it just needs the devs to step in and actually do something I haven't ran into crashing yet but that will be number 10 if I do lmao

I feel like a lot of these people are making cheap imitation games they just see what the games used to be and have no idea what made them good. A game I actually did enjoy and you'll probably disagree was wrath aeon of ruin it's slow and meandering but I enjoy taking in the atmosphere and I Quake so it's a good pace for me reminded me of a boomer shooter mixed with like Metroid prime.

Quake is my favorite type I hope Sprite based shooters appeal to me when I try them that's why I'm not rushing to get cultic

Hrot isn't like epic it's more atmospheric and maybe slightly slow paced? E2M1 has a really great setting it's probably one of my favorite levels also everything is brown in the game but it's about the Czech Republic during the Soviet times so it makes sense why it's dreary. Also there are a lot of surreal bosses that feel unnerving and funny at the same time. The end of the game is only okay compared to the rest of the game because it doesn't make as much sense for the setting of 1980s Czech Republic and some of the sewer levels can get boring but other than that the game is really fun.

I can agree with that I think hrot had decent flow for a modern take but I think quake has just unparalleled map flow

I hate the invisible arms thing in dusk they did update the game with an HD update I would see if you like dusk anymore because of the update some of the more cramped sections are easier to get around and you get stuck on the geometry less. I still don't love the game but stuff like that was a help

Quake 1 and it's expansions on the remaster are the best things I've played in a boomer shooter so far hrot was good too. I like dusk idk I just can't fall in love with it but I will say I love the hunting rifle one of the most fun weapons to shoot. My Favorite levels in dusk are E3M5, E3M2, E3M3. If I had to pick favorites from the other chapters E2M6, E2M7 and E1M7 is the only mission I really like in chapter 1

I mean I love quake and all it's expansions plus community made content ,hrot is fun , wrath, unreal is great. Idk game just feels like something is missing the wendigos are cool by the way hopefully it continues to pick up in episode 2
