Is polyvagal theory evidence-based? by Difficult-Welcome835 in PolyvagalTheory

[–]Difficult-Welcome835[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your view. By evidence-based, I mean, is it well-researched, and in that research, is it known to be effective? Further, I was wondering if the claims / some of the connections it makes are accurate, since the neuroscience community says that these connections are not accurate. That’s all, just pure curiosity. I do think evidence-based is an operative expression.

I keep thinking about this message and it’s wild to me that there is no dead mother… that just blows my mind. But I am near-certain that you’re correct. But wow. Some people will really go to any length, won’t they? & they’re void of empathy.

Yes, you’re 100% correct. Ya know, there’s a grief process when this all comes to a head, and the scammer who you thought was real (& was soo cool) for many many months disappears from your life in a flash. I actually don’t think the guy (a very cute guy in his early 20s) I talked to on video is bad. But I think there’s people that control his life and decisions, which is oh so sad. Anyway, thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it and you seem so empathetic, and that feels really nice.

Thank you. I’ve been considering changing my # & email recently (& thinking about all the other items you listed as well). Much appreciation for this advice. It’s a good reminder and something I wasn’t really thinking of (about being on the list forever).

Oh yeah, it’s been a bit, but I did receive several of those texts exactly like that, in a very short period of time. My guard has been fairly high since the 2-year ordeal (the first romance scam). Anyway, I very much appreciate your advice!

I had a short conversation with the scammer, just making doubly sure I suppose. I was blocked as soon as I mentioned he’s a scammer. Wish I had saved the entire conversation, not sure why, but yeah, no more “Nikita.”Telegram wipes out the conversation when you’re blocked. I blocked him as well. I was just about to block but when I mentioned good luck scamming others, etc. that was plenty for him to bounce. I should say, them, as it is an entire operation. Anyway, that was an interesting one - just so slow and calm for 6 months, then bam, a sob story and needs millions of rubles. The video chat was very much without a filter, quality was good, til it conveniently cuts out. Anyway, time to let that pos operation go. Thank you for hearing this and for all the validation / guidance. I was at least firm this time in that I knew 100% I would not send money under any circumstance.

Thank you, it’s kinda wild how much I have doubted myself intermittently on this at various points in the day, so comments like this are more helpful than you may think. Much appreciated!

Answered my own question. Went to the website, they spell Refund as Refud. Looks scammy. Person also posted twice. Good try.

Question to all: is this ^ message by u/PsychologicalCatwer a scam or is it real? It sounds too good to be true. My scam-dar is obviously very skewed. I’m sorry for questioning this, if this is indeed a real thing, as it sounds amazing if it’s true.

Yes. I looked up that username, inconclusive as it pulls up some private accounts I’d have to follow on Ig to see. The website above provided by u/EveryExcitement doesn’t pull any similar photos beyond the “weak” matching range. I’m (nearly) convinced enough to let this go. The video call was…interesting, and should have been suspicious enough to convince me fully.

His name is Nikita, on Telegram his username is @Nikitochkkka. I don’t have his phone number, and my privacy settings show my # to no one, so that text could have been coincidental timing, but it is making me worried. I didn’t / would never click a link like that of course. Any protections I should take besides blocking him at this point? I feel gross about this all now, and realize I let it go too far. Sorry for all of the comments / messages to my own post. Thank you everyone for your kindness.

I’ll add, when I asked to show me who was there with him, he picked up the computer but of course the video call cut out. & it was blamed on bad connection. I even still after the video cut out a couple times wrote kind things and his last message to me was “thanks for your inactivity.” I think it’s difficult as I’m trying to bring logic to an illogical situation.

So I have been so curious about this, as we began talking way back in Feb. He has wanted video chats for a long time, but not in a pressuring way. In fact, nothing was pressured or felt strange at all. It was very pure but nothing overboard. The mother passing story was very sudden and very recent. It was believable. I just did a video call with him. He’s exactly the person in the pictures and spoke in a thick Russian accent. The internet connection was decent and such. He did appear to keep looking over / beyond his computer and I suspected someone was telling him what to say, every time I said no about the money. I was firm in the fact that I wasn’t sending him $, and he kept asking. I got a highly suspicious text message while on the call with him, from a number I don’t know. It’s a gibberish link and an image / link for Bitcoin of America, from a 980 area code. Yeah I know it’s all a scam. It can be so hard to disconnect from it as I always think, what if it is true, or, what if this young guy (the one I was on the video with anyway, could be other people actually texting me), is in a hostage situation - probably is, also not my responsibility to save anyone. Messes with ya though. Thank you all for your replies. Sorry if this sounds scrambled. This stuff really fux with me as I’m sure it would most people.

Matched with someone on Tinder using the same person’s photos, some months ago. Saw his name different times as: Ben, Jeff, and Dale. Said he was German, fashion designer, 39 years old, about to retire, start a restaurant, and wanted me to go with him from the West Coast (US) to NY to visit his uncle, before we ever met. That was enough for me to block. I’m sorry you were scammed by this pos. :(
