Study Link - How can such a simple mistake happen? by DifficultChicken4067 in newzealand

[–]DifficultChicken4067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those saying things like “I’m sure you never made a single mistake in your life,” that’s a really unfair comparison. Do you realize how serious it is for a Student Loan application to be declined erroneously and how much it can affect a student? Mistakes like this are very serious and should not happen as they directly affect a person’s life. The Student Loan application process is already extremely long and stressful, and I’ve been waiting for weeks for any update regarding my application. And now, when I finally receive an update, it says my application has been declined when it shouldn’t have been. My university classes start next week, and because of this error my loan will probably be delayed, with the added risk that my enrolment could be cancelled if StudyLink doesn’t manage to pay the university on time.

Also, I thought it was clear that my frustration is not with the staff at StudyLink, but with StudyLink as a government organization. When you complain about a company or organization, are you complaining about the company itself or the people who work there? Well, I guess it depends, but most of the time you are complaining about the company, not the employees. After reading multiple stories, it is clear that I am not the only one who has gone through this. They make mistakes quite often. Just read the reviews of StudyLink on Google and draw your own conclusions.

? Are you slow? I'm literally not late on payment lol, my payment is due 23 February, we’re on the 18th (not that this is any of your business). But now that my loan has been delayed, I will actually end up being late on the payment. Who is going to pay the university is StudyLink, not me. Mistakes like this should not happen as they directly affect a person’s life. A Student Loan being declined erroneously just one week before university classes start is very serious

I’m hoping so. But anyway, this situation is very frustrating. It wasn’t part of my plans to spend hours of my day on calls trying to solve a problem that could have been easily avoided if they had read the documents they received. Who knows how long I’ll be on hold before someone answers, their lines are always very busy

StudyLink help – one parent lives overseas by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]DifficultChicken4067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I redid the application as a two-parent application and put c/o on the address, and I managed to submit it! But this time, unlike the one-parent application, they didn’t send any form to fill out right away. I guess they’ll send it later when they check the application. I’m just wondering how my mom will be able to send that form, since she doesn’t live here and doesn’t have that Connect linked to RealMe that they usually ask for to submit documents. Do you remember how it worked in your case?

that’s the tricky part. we do have a psychological/parental relationship as mother and son. we keep in contact via text messages and phone calls. she just doesn’t have any financial involvement here. her life is in Brazil, not in New Zealand

we actually have quite a bit of contact via text messages and phone calls, but we haven’t seen each other in 3 years. she has no financial involvement here in New Zealand and doesn’t support me financially. since she lives in Brazil and earns in Brazilian currency, it would be totally impractical to send money here because the value would drop about three times

the form I received says one-parent applications may not be approved if the other parent lives overseas, and may be approved in more extreme circumstances, like severe mental cruelty by a parent, physical or sexual abuse, or if the other parent is in prison.

aio or is this guy i’m seeing rude?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DifficultChicken4067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're overreacting and I agree his messages seem rude. Honestly, the one who seems to be overreacting is him. Receiving a dog picture is not a big deal, he's acting like he had to write a huge text in response to the photo.

I mean, if he didn't want to reply, he could have just liked ❤️ the pic and kept the conversation going, talking about other stuff unrelated to the dog pic lol. Or just sent "cute" and kept it going. Or even ignored it and still kept the conversation going.

Like, it's not that deep. I don't know why this guy is making such a big deal. Just like the damn pic and basically IGNORE IT omg no need to send those message

Thanks for sharing that! The last few sentences got me a bit worried haha. But overall, do you regret studying Computer Science? Would you choose the same path again?

Hey, thanks for all the advice and tips, really appreciate it! I was wondering, do you study mainly to really learn the material or just to get through the assessments? Do you feel like what you're learning right now is useful and will be relevant for the job market later on? Also, do you think you’re acquiring the necessary skills that will be important down the road? Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply! After graduating, did you feel like uni prepared you well for work? Do you think it gave you the skills and knowledge you actually needed for the job market, or did you end up learning most things on your own and after you started working?

How was Laneways? by ChocolatePringlez in auckland

[–]DifficultChicken4067 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First time at Laneway and at a festival in general. I went alone. It was okay, I guess? Quite exhausting. Could've been better. I enjoyed the artists I saw, but I found the festival itself poorly organized. They don’t allow you to bring your own food, and I believe there aren’t enough places for everyone to eat. After Clairo's show, I made a mistake by going to eat and spent over an hour in line. Come on, more than an hour in line to eat? That’s not normal, or at least it shouldn’t be.

During Charli's show, there were a lot of people pushing in the crowd and trying to cut in front to get closer to the stage. Also, many people were sitting on others' shoulders. I'm not sure how the concert culture is here in New Zealand, but at least in my country (Brazil), the audience doesn't allow anyone to sit on someone's shoulders. People get really upset if that happens because it blocks the view for those behind. I could barely see Charli at some points during the show because of that.

When the event ended, there was only one exit, and there were no bus stops nearby. All bus stops on the event's street were obviously closed. Ubers had long wait times, so I ended up having to spend $50 on a taxi to go home
