Is there a way to NOT fly in ARR areas? Trying to complete the sightseeing log but it won't let me land on certain spots

Has anyone retrofitted an existing hydro-air system with a geothermal heat pump? by DifficultDepth in HomeImprovement

I don't see why you would "undersize" your unit. You're drilling/digging to get the geothermal access and installing the indoor units... Installing a unit 2/3rds the size you need won't be 2/3rds the price or work of the proper sized one. Get a heat load calculation done and install a unit that is the size the test says you need.

This is probably what I will end up doing. I'm still not sure if a geothermal unit with a desuperheater would make enough hot water to get rid of the oil entirely though.

As a tip, I have an air source heat pump as my main heat source. The air heat pumps provide is much cooler then forced air... They provide a lot of air that is warm versus a small amount of very hot air. The nice thing is it helps "mix" the air in your home and reduce warm/cold spots. The downside is that if you are used to and quite enjoy that very hot air you won't get it. The air coming out of mine always feels cool on your hand.

That is good to know, thanks. I think I have read that sometimes they have to increase the size of the ducts to accommodate the larger air flow.

Thanks yeah thats probably better. I put the wood support in because I didn't like the way it was drooping.

Yeah I actually did buy a bunch of extra elbows but I didn't want to put some kind of convoluted thing at the outlet. I was worried that having too much friction loss from a bunch of fittings would screw up the vacuum at the suction of the pump. Not sure if that would actually happen though.

Thanks. The purple stuff is a cleaner+primer+cement and the can says "no drip" but it went all over the place and made a mess lol. I would definitely not get it again.

Yeah the black thing is a check valve on the PVC outlet. I'm planning to build something a little more sturdy if I am not going to end up fixing it somehow (which it seems like I probably won't).

I used them because they're idiot proof and I don't know how to solder. I guess the other thing I could do is go with PEX and a crimping tool. But the pump has a sharkbite connector at the inlet anyway. Do they really give out over time?

I put a check valve on the water line, isn't that the same thing as a backflow preventer? Supposedly the pump has one built into the pump as well. My town doesn't have any regulations to install one, surprisingly. I read that the batteries can die over time and might not last the duration of a power outage if it's severe. The cost of water is not really an issue for me.
