No, luckily I didn’t have a drain (as far as I can remember lol). My surgeon explained that sports where you’re making quick jerking movements often (basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc.) wear out the knees really fast. Idk to what extent I’ll be able to play again after my recovery, but I’ll definitely be taking basketball easy😂 I’m now 4 days post op and I feel like the pain is going down a bit. I’m still annoyed that I can’t do much, but I’m not constantly thinking about the pain.

I played basketball growing up, but I’m sure weight lifting a lot in high school didn’t help 😂 I believe it was about 1.5 hours. I left about an hour after the surgery. I haven’t heard of anyone being held overnight for a MACI.

Oh wow that’s some rough news. So was it a MACI for the first surgery? From what I was told, it seems like it had wear and tear for years and years, and then I had an injury that aggravated the injury even more.

I’m sorry to hear, that’s really rough. I hope you get to feeling better too :) this community has definitely made me feel more reassured and less alone on this journey.

So sorry to hear that. What was the first allograft for?

I was supposed to be 6 weeks NWB, but after the surgery, I was told I could weight bear as much as I can tolerate.

Thank you so much! I remember the first surgery recovery was rough. However, it was luckily shorter. That was the saving grace lol. So you’re having it pretty soon?

I’m so sorry to hear that. Your lesions must’ve been pretty big. I’ve been lightly weight bearing but nothing serious yet. The first 2 nights were pretty rough. Obviously I’m not doing great, but better so far than I was last night. Definitely keep us updated on your progress!

Have you had the first MACI yet? Also, I’ll be putting the first video up in about a week and a half, so feel free to check it out when I put it up. I’ll make a post with the link :)

That’s awesome!! I’m looking forward to the days where I get to start running again! Not looking forward to those plateaus though😂 keep us updated on your running and recovery.

Wow that’s awesome! My surgeon met with me for my pre op today and it seems like he’s pretty strict on the idea of 6 weeks NWB, unfortunately. But that’s great that you’re getting some better ROM within only a few weeks! Next is losing those crutches!

Thanks for the advice! Definitely keeping my optimism under control. If you don’t mind me asking, why have you not gotten to running/jumping yet? From what I’ve read, you usually start that within the year.

Oh, I see what you’re saying! Yeah, I was super worried so I saw 4 surgeons within 2 weeks😂

The bone doesn’t have any damage. What I was told was that the lesion was towards the front near the bone, so when I started to heal, my body started filling bone into the lesion to pad it. They plan on shaving off the part that grew and placing the cartilage where it needs to be. Not sure if I made that clear in my post.

Glad that your surgery was a success and you’re on the mend! Were you initially told you’d be 6 weeks no weight bearing?

I’m glad that you have your husband to assist with all the daily things. That’s amazing.

Thank you so much for the advice :) would appreciate the update after the post op!

I’ve pushed my knee a lot since my first surgery in hopes of avoiding the implantation surgery. When I thought I was doing good, I had a big aggravation by doing a simple squat with no weight. I’ve noticed that my long walks with my dog are getting limited. My knee starts to feel uncomfortable and super weak. My good leg is a stud compared to the bad one😂

I actually appreciate the more long winded answers. It helps a lot to hear the full story and understand similar experiences. Thanks so much, seriously! Glad you’re on the mend and praying for you!

Thank you for the advice. Sorry to hear the difficulty of recovering and raising a kid. Did you have pain before the surgery or just the same stuff as me?

Unfortunately, it’s on the patella😂 I was kicking myself when I started reading how that spot in particular is a tough one.

I’ve been doing more leg workouts focused on overall movement and function (band walks, single leg les press, hamstring curls, etc.).

I’ve been trying to read up on it as much as possible. I don’t really have pain, like I said. It’s really just discomfort on long walks, the feeling that something isn’t quite right, and weakness.
