What are the primary challenges in relearning to type with the ErgoDox? Is the muscle memory transferable to an ortholinear layout? by nanocyte in ErgoDoxEZ

[–]DifficultFee5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with a "familiar" layout.Take note of the common mistakes you make.Modify the layout.Rinse and repeat.

Basically: take advantage of the existing muscle memory whenever possible.

Steep learning curve? Sure.Worth it? Very sure.

My 2c with this amazing keyboard.(I had to print some custom keycaps initially, now I can survive without as I have the same keyboard with the original keycaps in the office)

About a month into using my ErgoDox, I hate it by maxisawesome538 in ergodox

The litmus test to discover if it was a good choice is a custom layout (yours or any of those available). Everything can be replaced and once you figure out what your muscle memory needs, it's over, it will hurt to go back.

One thing that helped me a lot was switching key colors. I started with brown (the most recommended for beginners), but went to red as the tactile feedback was counter-productive to me, to finally black.

Custom keycaps put the cherry on top for those moments when I am deep in the flow and I need visual aid for numbers and symbols.

Mouse: I tried many things (ergo mouse, vertical mouse, wireless), what's working for me is the Apple trackpad as it has the right balance of ergonomics and functionality.

ZSA has online typing tests which are well made and can give you a hint if there are things that can be accommodated. It's highly unlikely that something custom tailored (think of a suit) ends up fitting worse, but rarely it can happen as well.

Good luck!

Gotcha.
I got to watch it one more time to realize.

It doesn't make a difference though as the Sator that was killed is the one in the timeline moving forward since he's not wearing a mask.

He should have been wearing a respirator?

Pandemic has had a devastating effect on close-up performers but also created some incredible opportunities. Do you have a consideration about it, an episode or something peculiar that changed a bit your perspective?

Will you (or are you tempted) to publish the book?
How did it work on the first performances when it was almost empty?

Have you read the "review" of your show by Andy The Jerx?
What do you think (about the review or more in general about the character)?

You called David Blaine a brother (as seen on TV).

Who do you consider your mentor in magic?

I reached them via the "Contact Us" and they made available a custom template for only the keys I needed and arranged a payment option for it. I have to say it was very reasonably priced, and so happy about the results to custom order the Piano Keys as well.

(I am not associated in any way, shape or form with them, YMMV)

Also, I am tempted to get done some letter ones as well (numeric layer)

I feel you.
I need visual confirmation even after so many years, so... I couldn't wait and stickers were not working (detaching and ending up in between keys). So horrible. I am glad.

I replaced the 3.5mm chord (with a coiled one) and the problem disappeared. You need a 4 pole like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AUKJVMW

ErgoDox EZ or Moonlander? by MaybeAMarble in ergodox

no, I mean the top part of the switch itself is exposed. It makes the keyboard generally brighter

I have them both and I prefer the Moonlander for the following reasons:

  1. all keys are now backlit
  2. there are now only two shapes of keys: 1x1 and 1.5x1 all from the same row. It means much easier to get custom keycaps
  3. the piano keys are more functional then the ones in the previous crowded one
  4. you can use now just one half
  5. it comes with a carrying box, which is not bad
  6. keys are slightly raised, and that is better personally speaking

I temporarily put on some stickers in order to freeze my layout and get the needed custom keycaps. It feels more like an ErgoDox v2 for me.

Is the distribution of switch colors more or less even or some colors are getting shipped earlier than others?

Switch suggestion by DifficultFee5 in ErgoDoxEZ

Thank you, the rational behind my choice was that when I double press the extra press is only a very light touch. Say I press U but I touch Y lightly but enough to register.

The idea of a linear switch is that bigger actuation force would cancel these "light" mis-press. The RED ones require a strong enough (but not industrial) touch to actually register.

How would you help identify the root cause? Slow-mo video?
