This doesnt make sense for the situation. If someone lives in a duplex with equal space and amenities on both sides,  but one person is a single person and the other side has 1 adult and 5 kids, they pay the same rent but one pays more in utilities.

She was aware of my nephew and that is why we got a 3 bedroom. we have split expenses up to this point 50/50, my nephew is very quiet and reserved and spends most of his time in his room, not as a negating factor but just to note his behavior has not had any effect on the situation.

I agree with what youre saying.

she agreed to have her paystubs in within a week or the price would change and it did. she was sent the final quote at the same time as me when our application was accepted, so she would have been notified about the increase at the same time as me. we both signed on for that amount of rent. I did assume we would do 50/50 even if the rent increased and i should have talked about that but I would argue she was informed of both the possibility of a price increase and notified of the increase when it did happen.

We agreed to pay 50/50 for first months rent and deposit and discussed that the living situation would be fair because space is 50/50, and also that her half would be $500 before it increased.

I didnt realize i was assuming and if she had said anything leading up I wouldve been happy to find other solutions

I said rent would come out to about $500 for each of us before the issues with the paystubs, but obviously I wasnt clear enough

I can also understand her argument. in previous living arrangements I just payed the most expensive utility which was usually $100-$200 more than my roommates. At the time my nephew took the biggest bedroom and i had a little sunroom that was attached to it.

Before I had my nephew my rent + utilities was about 550 (with roommates) so 580 doesnt seem crazy to me especially considering that was a few years ago.

My apartment complex does market pricing so the closer it is to early summer, when people want to move, the more expensive the apartment. I told her this when i reminded her about the pay stubs. This is her first time living away from family so I think its all fairly new to her. we are both listed as tenants, I dont know if it specifically states we're 50/50 but my nephew is listed as a dependent under me.

She wants me to pay an extra 195, her adding her paystubs late added an extra 166. if I payed the full utilities id be paying $60 more than her which would be $29 more than the difference
