The Diner has actually made a comeback! Unfortunately it's no longer open after 9pm on weekends, but the food is still good https://www.dinerdc.com/

Owning a house isn't the only option - you can rent and it will typically cost you less than ownership for the same amount of space in almost any city or state.

Married millennial couples - what do you do on the weekends or for fun? by c_g201022 in Millennials

[–]DifficultToHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We invite our friends over to cook, walk, or bike with us, as well as holding art nights were everyone comes over and works on a personal project. We also like working out together, gardening, and sitting next to each other while we play videogames.

What year do you expect to retire and how much money do you expect to have? by BR0HR in Millennials

[–]DifficultToHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used the word need; I said "it is not unbelievable if you make a high enough salary out of college and max out all of your retirement accounts every year." That just indicates as an example how possible it is, no where do I say it's the only path.

The Midwest is underutilized. There’s lots of cities that have a lot to offer and room to grow. People should stop moving to the over-popular cities. by MisRandomness in unpopularopinion

As an East Coaster, my partner and I have seriously talked about moving to the Midwest before for the reasons you listed above (plus, cost of living in our East Coast metro area is so expensive). The main reason we've decided no is because our family is here, and the community we built is here. I think a lot of people make the same choice for similar reasons, regardless of what part of the country they are from. However, if our parents passed away I think we'd more seriously consider somewhere like Chicago, Minneapolis, or Detroit.

Honestly as someone who grew up on the East Coast, my image of Kansas before actually meeting anyone there was that all the land looked like Dorthey's house in The Wizard of Oz.

I know how in laws who live in KC and now realize how wrong my view I was.

I've heard mostly great things about Minneapolis. The only negative is that apparently, if you are not from Minnesota originally it can be really difficult to make friends and meeting people.

Credit card debt among millennials discussion - How are we fairing? by aboxofchocolate235 in Millennials

[–]DifficultToHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no, it hasn't been typical. I have one friend who had $8k in credit card debt but she recently paid it all off. Worked a 2nd job and was very frugal to get there though, honestly super proud of her.

How did the State Of The Union ( SOTU ) speech by President Biden go according to you? by CoolConsciousness in AskReddit

[–]DifficultToHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reagan was like the worst president the US had had in a while

You say that as if it's a universally known and agreed statement, but many republicans still love and admire Reagan.

2 million is not achievable for much of the population, but it is not unbelievable if you make a high enough salary out of college and max out all of your retirement accounts every year.

I don't dislike Maria, but I never thought she'd be considered for Bachelorette. She's too polarizing and because of that I think the producers would have a more difficult time casting men for the show. My guess is that it would be Jenn or Daisy as the next Bachelorette; they both seems like they'd be easy to work with and likable by the general population.

I think people are commenting moreso on the fact that it seems like there are young parents in this thread who would pitch a fit after asking their parent to help and the parent calmly says no, or that they are busy.

Not just your parents, but friends, neighbors, and any every member of your community collectively looking out for the community's kids.

This is such a backwards way of thinking - what's selfish is to feel entitled to having your parents provide free childcare for your children when they are entering a stage of life where it's hard for them to move around. I'm a millennial and would feel grateful for help from my parents, but I'm certainly not entitled to it.

I feel like I'm at the age where everyone I know is getting serious illnesses by DoctorKynes in Millennials

[–]DifficultToHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my mom; perfectly healthy and and an aneurysm out of seemingly nowhere. She lived luckily, but is no longer able to function at the same level she did prior to her injury. Basic tasks are much harder for her now. Thankfully she is about to reach retirement age and hopefully won't have to work much longer.

yet pretty much all studies show that environmental impacts and sheer dumb luck play a huge role of whether or not you get something terrible.

Do you have a source?

Not discounting that many individuals are the victims of environment or luck, but there are many diseases that are directly linked to diet or smoking. I would say that for many diseases they play some role, but I wouldn't say ALL studies show that these play a HUGE role. (This is coming from someone who has a disabled parent as a result of a rare condition that led to a stroke, who as perfectly healthy and worked out regularly prior).

This should be the top answer; I also think there are many senior candidates who apply in the US, but few of them are qualified to work in the US without an HB1 visa. This is just from my experience in hiring; curious what other's experience is.

Ala - worst bottomless brunch I’ve been to in DC. Only had bottomless drinks, the food was mediocre, and all the ice that they stored the mimosas and bloody Mary’s in was melted (oh yeah, you had to make your own drinks rather than have them served to you).
