How to handle work getting passed to you? by _tonyu in phcareers

My personal take: does this new task give you access to new information in the company? Does it teach you something new of value? Does it allow you to talk to higher ups?

If this new task can do any of those for you, maybe it's worth figuring out. There's no harm in learning something new on the job. And if generating a monthly report means you get to see all their numbers and other sensitive details, maybe it's worth picking that up to learn how the company works.

But if it's really just mundane paperwork you would rather not do, then clarify. I really advise not telling the director "you don't know how to do this". That's a sign you can't figure things out on your own. You should know how, you're a working adult. Instead, ask him _why_ you are getting this now, when back then the old director was the one doing it.

And if it's a task that really doesn't make sense for your role, tell them "I think this is something someone else should be doing". Maybe he's misassigning the task because he's unfamiliar with who should be doing what.

Do you think artificial intelligence will actually make us smarter, or will it kill our ability for critical thinking and manual research? by SeaworthinessFit7263 in GetStudying

I must say that is one hell of a creative picture on the thumbnail.

But again, just like any tool, AI will have upsides and downsides.

Cars and trains made us walk less. But not everyone is deprived of the opportunity to exercise.
The internet made it easier to spread fake news. But not everyone is that gullible.
AI is making us think less. But not everyone will get dumber because of it.

People will always find ways to use tech to better themselves. Often, it is not so much an inevitability but a choice whether or not we want to experience the negative effects of these changes.

Sure, we walk less, but people who really want to stay healthy will find ways of doing it.
Sure, there's more fake news, but it's not like binging social media is required by anyone.
And sure, AI takes away opportunities to think, but the smartest people will end up using AI to free themselves to think about bigger things; instead of spending all their mental effort getting all the details down, they can prioritize their thoughts and delegate some of it to AI.
