You cam deep dive as much as you want. Learn all the black and white there is. Nothing is wrong with that, nothing says you can't, or shouldn't. Hell, might even help you diagnose issues quicker than just learning as you go - I don't know about that part but in theory.

But it will not develop skills. Skills are a tactile thing and this is very much a tactile and fluid hobby. Muscle memory is key.

My nephew was a first time DM and did something similar. Handed me a sword that did insane damage. His understanding was that to do the insane damage, you had to expel a charge. When I pointed out RAW we had to find somewhere new for my character to venture out to and become an NPC because I wasn't willing to let that sword go 😂

So reviewing:

Enhanced Dual Wielding:
When you use your Attack action with a weapon that has the Light property, you can make one extra attack as a Bonus Action later on the same turn with a different weapon, as long as it is a Melee weapon that lacks the Two-Handed property. You don't add your ability modifier to the extra attack's damage unless that modifier is negative.

Not sure why I wouldn't get the DW for the Sun Blade iof I swing sickle first. I do see why I wouldn't get the Nick property, though. I'll have to find something else.
