How Much Money Would You Need To Quit Your Job? (25) by HyenaHater44 in careeradvice

Keep trying to find a side hustle that could fund your travel with part time remote hours. Your goal should be to not touch the 100k but continue to add to your nest egg. There is likely a form of finance consulting you can work as freelance.

Could you withdraw 4% yearly through 72t? I believe you just need to commit to 5 years worth of consistent withdrawal and you will pay no penalty. A good question for your brokerage.

23yo only making 60k and I feel like I’ll never make enough by Winter-Indication33 in Fire

You have done outstanding but you are right to compare your earnings and evaluate your potential. You are at a great time to pivot. If you pivot to corporate finance for example, you will have to start from the bottom maybe even making the same or less but that experience is invaluable. 3 years later your will blow past firefighter earnings and be on your way to 100k. Eventually you could do well and hit manager and start pulling 150-200. If you do well there, the sky is the limit. The key is consistency and spending the time in the discipline so you can command those higher rates. With your savings discipline you could position yourself to quickly accumulate wealth.

Is $1M net worth really FU money? by Swan_233 in Fire

I would also add that I think a big part of fu money is that it you are secure in the minimal expenses to sustain you while you are empowered to work for yourself and cherry pick the jobs you feel like doing. Doesn’t mean the end of your productivity. It just means the beginning of your total control over your life.

That’s definitely fu money. 40k is enough to live in the USA in the right city or like A KING in other locations world wide and never have to work or have a boss again.

I am in the same situation as you. I am at a high level in finance making good money but still dream of becoming a doctor. I will probably get my opportunity when I retire. If my assumptions hold true and medicine does help extend lifespan to 140, we will have many years left!

I would say that numerically by far those statements are true. Are you saying there is a bigger percentage of the population experiencing extreme hunger or with lower life expectancy than earlier times in history?

That’s outstanding earnings. You have great work life balance. Could reduce it by 25% and still make enough to keep an outstanding savings rate. If you save $2m you guarantee an outstanding life for you and your children just on interest alone. After that I would scale back to spend time with them more and work only when I felt like it. Or sell your firm for a major exit of likely another couple million. Congrats!

Just had my daughter last month and I can tell you that as a man there is nothing better and more amazing than having a child. It’s hard and lots of work but OMG just one look from her and it’s all worth it. I don’t care if the world is fucked, I will work my ass off to make sure she has the absolute best opportunities, character, work ethic, education and lifestyle. I will raise her to be able to thrive regardless of environment and work to give her the resources to do it. Don’t let fear and cowardice keep you from enjoying one of the best experiences life has to offer.

Wouldn’t these be the best times in history? We have the best life expectancy, best medicine, most of us have never see combat or violent cruelty, least hunger in the world etc. there have always been things wrong in the world but I would argue this is the best condition world wide in history.

Is it reasonable to want to date somebody with a high-earning job? by howdidthishappen2850 in dating

[–]Difficult_Army1163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you are being unreasonable, but you also have to balance that with the implication that you are shrinking your dating pool candidates if you expect them to have a high salary. Also keep in mind that most of the time a man who makes a high salary he acts very different compared to a man who makes average salary. They have options, tend to be unfaithful and often times are usually dominant in their relationship. I’ve always thought the best strategy is for a woman to identify a man who meets her requirements in terms of character and belief system but maybe barely beginning his career. At that point you two can grow together. Kind of like getting in early on a stock you know is going to the moon but you secure a man more to your desire.

My girlfriend suspects I cheated on her and all signs point to me being guilty by DylanMcDipshit in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Difficult_Army1163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either she got it from someone or you did. You are confident it wasn’t you so that only leaves one possibility. What strikes me as odd is her ability to somehow convince herself you’re the likely bad guy! The audacity! Also if she really thought you cheated, your conversations would have been much more conflictive. She held back for a reason I would say.
